Rossum is still a very solid return guy. I think the implement of a new special team rule regarding wedges will effect returns throughout the leauge.

He had a pretty good season with the 9ers last year, so I think he has earned more than a one-week shot with the 9ers this season.

I'd much rather have someone who can do that over someone like Allen who has a very high average but has a very slim chance of taking it all the way.
A guy like Josh Cribbs, who only has 2 touchdowns for his career as a returner, is still feared by every team that kicks it to him so they actually have to game plan a little more for the threat. For Allen, no one gives a s**t because the dude doesn't have that extra gear anymore.
Are you happy with Allen's play or do you, like I do, hope we get a new PR/KR?
Do you realize that on a team like ours that doesn't have an explosive offense that Rossum is exactly what we need? Our offense needs a guy who consistantly gets us 26.8 yards on kickoffs and 14.9 yards on punt returns to help shorten the field for us.
If we had one of those guys who may take it to the house once or twice a year but don't consistantly get us good yardage that means on most of those other returns our offense has further to drive up field.
You really would rather teams game plan against our returner, our offense be forced to drive further, just so we might have 1 or 2 returns.
On a ball control type of offense who wants to keep the score low and not get into explosive shootouts field position is so important, not field postion once or twice a year but consistant field position that the offense can rely on just about every time they take the field cause they need a little extra help.
Thats just my two cents on the matter. I'm sure you disagree.

I suppose you would turn down a straight up trade mckelvin for rossum because of that play huh?

sorry i disagree
and didnt he get a touchdown last year? so
1. he has a solid average
2. never fumbles
3. possible could take it to the house on any given play (although less likely than other return men)
so pretty much he's solid

This is an idiotic thread.
Rossum averaged 26.8/KR last season and returned one 104 yds for a TD, and never fumbled. He also average 14.9/PR and never fumbled.
Those are good stats in my book.

Rossum has consistently been a threat to provide us with excellent field position. That is the true purpose of a KR/PR, and that should be the primary gauge of his success.
Furthermore, he really is a threat to go all the way. Last year's opener showed us that. Granted it was last year, but he has only played one game so far this year, and he did well in return yardage in that game.
If we load up the team with players that frighten other teams but who are prone to fumbles, dropped balls, etc., then we will never win a championship.
A championship team mixes the riskier players (like Dre Bly, who will produce turnovers but also give up big plays on occasion) with consistent players like Allen Rossum (who will regularly provide good field position and occasionally break a big one for a score).
I say keep Rossum while developing his replacement down the road.

At the end of last season, he was clearly the teams best option (and why they signed him in the first place). They didn't get anyone better in the offseason. After one game this year, there is no reason to believe he suddenly sucks.

Its a question buddy, why would you want to lock up a question? This is a discussion board is it not.
A few people have already posted they are over Rossum, so clearly it is a relevant debate.
End thread. Please, you want to end a thread then you better post an iron clad argument...because "good stats in my book" and "this" doesn't really end s**t

I'm hoping Sheets is getting practice at returning kicks. If not we need to draft someone to return kicks that play a position on squad so we don't have a roster spot.

well some of us like to be a little more pro active. I think the bottom line is some of us want a better long term solution at RET...I know I do.
