If Lewis can't play alot I would really like to see Reggie Smith get some action on passing downs. He looks like a player to me. I sure hope Lewis is ok & can play this year.

I agree. Roman will be an okay fill-in for awhile, but his game is very, very different than Lewis so we will lose a lot. If Lewis is out for an extended period of time, I too hope they work Reggie in somehow. He's made enough plays this preseason to earn some playing time. We need to see if he's really the future at safety.

Note to Noobs: This is the way to start a thread. Quality.
I agree that it appears the Niners are playing conservative with Lewis' physical condition. Carry five safeties is irregular, especially since Hudson can double-duty at safety, if needed.
I'm not sure the Niners would feel comfortable carrying three young pups at safety if Lewis continues to have issues. Wouldn't be surprised to see a waiver wire acquisition.
I still think Hill is not safe at WR if Crabtree reports. Spurlock is a guy the team can stash on the PS, but he is the main guy at the Wildcat, and has tremendous versatility. I don't see the same with Hill.
Spurlock isn't practice squad eligible.
You are right. He's burned through his three years already. I knew he had not been active for nine games (only eight), but he has already served three years on practice squads.
Thanks for the note.

Yeah I am wondering the same thing, a team does not usually keep 5 safeties so for us to keep 5 safeties is a little strange. I am worried about Michael Lewis and I have no clue what his status is for the AZ game, I don't think either of the Mike's know either.
We forget that Michael Lewis is a good football player because we bash him for not being very good in pass coverage and not making many plays but he is very good vs the run, I believe he was 2nd or 3rd in the NFL for tackles for safeties. We need him in there.
