The Trey Lance trade revisited:

Shop 49ers game tickets
On August 26, 2023, Lance was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2024 fourth-round pick (Malik Mustapha).

Original trade:

49ers get:
  • 2021 first-round pick (No. 3 overall)
Dolphins get:
  • 2021 first-round pick (No. 12 overall)
  • 2022 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)
  • 2022 third-round pick (No. 101 overall)
  • 2023 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)

What we lost out on:

Micah Parsons, edge rusher
  • Pick: 2021 first-round pick (No. 12 overall)
  • Team: Cowboys

Cole Strange, guard
  • Pick: 2022 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)
  • Team: Patriots
Channing Tindall, linebacker
  • Pick: 2022 third-round pick (No. 101 overall)
  • Team: Dolphins

Bryan Bresee, defensive tackle
  • Pick: 2023 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)
  • Team: Saints

What an epic failure. This trade would have got most GM's fired.

Imagine having Parsons who has 52.5 sacks in 63 games and Bresee who has 12 sacks in 2 years (7.5 sacks last year) on this DLine?

This has to be arguably one of the worst trades in NFL history.

Trey Lance is not a 49er anymore.
This oddly makes me feel better, Parsons is not a scheme fit, he's a sack master but that's it. Not good in the run game and bad in coverage. I don't even recognize the other names. Mustapha looks like he could end up a pro bowler. Definitely one of the worst trades in nfl history. Not only because he was a straight bust but we didn't know who would even be there.

Ive said it before the biggest mistake this regime made was trading for Jimmy instead of signing Cousins. Non of this would have happened and we probably at least have 1 Super Bowl
ok
Again it is not the Trey Lance trade. It was the trade to move to #3 overall months before the draft.

Out of all the players that were available, they chose a young would be rookie QB. They could have maybe traded down draft night... they could have traded for 9er zone's newest love, Mac Jones. But no.

this is dumber than a bag of rocks. because changing history would also mean Purdy likely isn't picked when and where by the Niners. they would've ended up drafting a different QB.

We still could have and from the sounds of it would have still drafted Purdy on top of that we would of ended up with Cousins, Rodgers or even Brady throughout our superbowl runs
Yes we would have picked those exact same players.
this team wasn't selecting Micah anyway. he had character issue baggage coming out of college. the FO had already been burned by drafting Ruben Foster. they've stayed away from players with perceived character issues since then.
We got robbed. Should've got 4 first rounders.

There is no scenario we would've picked Micah so I don't know why you'd present that way

Beyond that, you can do this about every draft pick for every team. Some guy they could have picked turned out to be a probowler vs the bum they actually picked.

One thing is for sure: trey lance is the biggest bust in SPORTS history considering what was traded for him and how s**tty he turned out

Some people must be really bored out of their skulls.

Parsons can fit in any scheme.

Nice revisionist history. There's no guarantee that the Niners would have picked those guys just because you like them. They could have gone in a different direction with those picks. The Lance pick was a stretch and it didn't work out. Because he didn't work out they drafted Purdy. He's worked out fine. They missed big on one and hit big on another.
Just crazy how bad that trade was and nobody was ever held accountable.
