Watched the Boise State tape. Unfortunately, Moss was playing RT and he's just not a tackle. Body type is compact and squatty. If you told me he was 320 I would have believed it. Underwear band is hanging out because his ass and legs are thick. Struggled with speed on the edge and trying to mirror rushers. I dont think theres any chance he can play tackle in the NFL at 6'4 with 32 inch arms. He is an interior lineman through and through. Unfortunately, on this game tape Colorado State is down early and sucks at running the ball, so we see 54 pass sets vs 17 runs. So admittedly, this is not the best exposure.
The good. He's quick off the ball. He appears to have a good anchor and good grip strength. If hes in front and latches on hes able to hold the point and neutralize defenders. Hes good at riding the hip of defenders and using their own momentum against them. He generates push in the run game. His finishing and mauler mentality is inconsistent, but when its turned up he has the strength to throw guys down and take them out of the play. His play doesnt scream this guy is super athletic, but he makes some quick moves where you can tell he has something in there. He has a good first and second step, and would seem to project well as a puller.
The bad. He looks uncoordinated to me. He makes a lightning quick first move to run out on a WR screen, but then he trips over his own man. Another time he has an opportunity to get to the second level and trips over his own feet. Defenders tossed him to the ground a few times. He was 0/2 on cut block attempts and looked awkward. He has the recognition of when to combo block, but is late getting there. Not because he is physically slow, but he just leaves too late to get there. He overestimates his ability to cover ground. Looks susceptible to stunts. He plays top heavy and is a lunger. I see him looking for work at the second level, but rarely getting to someone to make a play.
Overall, looks like a UDFA guy. I'd like to see tape of him inside, and in an offense with more movement. Colorado State is mostly running man blocking and its tough to glean what he can do in outside zone especially from a million 1 v 1 pass sets. As is, I'm not seeing NFL talent. But perhaps his weaknesses are thought to be coachable and/or his strengths can be better highlighted in outside zone.
Excellent breakdown
Plays two positions like Colby, another plus...
