If you think Ward and Tartt are gonna get replaced by a street free agent and a 5th round pick that's a hell of a leap. Hopefully with a new DC he will put our guys in a more advantageous positions. But if they just continue not giving up huge plays I'll be happy it's not like this team was lacking in the turnover category last season.
I guess stats are more important than having a top 5 pass defense to some people. Even without a good pass rush our pass D was legit last year. Even with players like Ahkello, that garbage can Vs Miami, Dontae Johnson playing nickle, Jimmie Ward looking like the worst DB in the NFL the first few weeks before turning it around once JV started playing.

Tartt Is actually understated by this fan base, we all saw what happened to the D In 2019 once he went down for afew games due to Injury.
we will just agree to disagree
. if jefferson gets beat out. great. i hope tart and ward will be solid for us. hell. i am not saying this guy is a savior. I just think if he is healthy he can be what jason v was to us last year. if i am wrong. i will admit it. like i always do. from marlon moore to the team not signing jimmy back in the day

this is a good post.. and as we know. we got money issues. so this is a good signing considering the status of our financial house

This. I wish they would've mixed in another cb and edge but they still can I guess
i may be nuts. shock.. but with the drafting of the rookies.. i think the cornerback thing is set for camp.. yes to the edge rusher. but i just think no one is out there we can get cheap and barring a trade.. that is our best option. sign a guy cheap. .. if there is anyone even out there

Yeah for the most part our safeties do what is asked of them...neither are pro-bowlers, but we're not paying them top end money either.
I'm guessing we let Tartt walk and will have to find another guy. I just don't get the hate overall for both guys. We will see, I'm pumped to see the rookie DBs throughout training camp and preseason...even Hufanga
I was hoping Moore was gonna get more snaps, he's got the ability just needs to work on angles and play recognition IMO (which comes with more snaps).
overall I'm not that worried about our secondary this yr.

Moore is also a liability in terms of tackling. He's probably our most athletic player on the team and word is he billed up a bit this off season so hopefully his tackling improves and he can start taking snaps.

would be a great thing to see him take it up a notch.

I honestly have no issues with Ward & Tartt at Safety, I don't think they're great, they're certainly very good, but when the team can save $6.795M in 2022 by letting go of Ward, that would go a long ways towards extending some guys(Deebo, Dre) or help re-sign guys(Wilson, Dwelley, Sherfield, Pruitt, Key, Hurst, Brunskill, Givens, Kerr, Gallman, Harris, etc...) plus their key FAs(Laken, Jones, Verrett, K'Waun, Moore, Tartt).
In 2022 I would envision a safety tandem of Tarvarius Moore at FS and Talanoa Hufanga at SS.

The only time a safety has a big impact on a game is when he is bad.

Is this from Austin Powers, if so, believe it or not, I've never seen any of the movies. I just watched the 3 Matrix movies not long ago.

Agreed, also a lot of the names Ab brought up to resign aren't really guys I'm that worried about…if they ball out sweet go get paid, SF gets a comp pick to replace them.
as far as resigning Deebo/Dre, Deebo has to show he can play a full season before we start handing him out a bunch of cash and I might get crucified for this but I didn't think Geeenlaw played lights out this past season…he's gotta show some improvements too.
