Then they are really dumb. Trey Lance has thrown 445 passes. TOTAL. In his ENTIRE LIFE, including high school. He is as inexperienced as you can possibly get.

People need to calm the f**k down. Despite being so incredibly inexperienced (Jimmy threw more passes in 2019 than Trey has in his entire life), he still is — right now — almost as good as Jimmy is in total. In a year or two he will be very, very good, if he continues his trajectory.

This isn't a pro-Jimmy or Trey angle but how exactly do you define this and come to this conclusion at this stage?

I find it quite alarming we traded the capital we did to draft the most inexperienced qb, maybe of all time, coming in to the draft.
I am baffled as to how one thinks he is as good as Jimmy now.

"Baffled?". Jimmy has thrown 8 ints in camp compared to 3 for Trey despite the fact that Jimmy has played with the 1s and the 2s suck. Jimmy's average pass is usually 5 yards. He's the checkdown king. Lance has thrown several passes over 35 yards with many more TDs than Jimmy. I don't think you want to compare Jimmy as a runner. He was a gunslinger when he arrived and was throwing all over the place. Then he foolishly failed to run out of bounds and blew out his knee. He has never been the same since. Trey is bigger, faster, stronger and apparently smarter. Kyle will soon make him #1.

The only thing Jimmy has over Trey is experience playing at NFL speed. Dude makes Alex look like a deep ball thrower. His type literally won't work anymore. Against GB Wilson looked like the next Rodgers. Guys like Allen and Mahommes and Herbert and eventually Lawrence are going to put up 30 against the best D's. Jimmy won't. That's when he's on the field

Let's not get crazy now.

And for the love of god can we stop overrating preseason play? Wilson looking great in preseason doesn't make him the next Rodgers.

This isn't about Jimmy. It's about Trey and where he's at in his career. We know his physical tools are much better than Jimmy's. But he showed at least so far in game action vs inferior players than the ones he'll be facing most often that he's got things to work on.

Lucky for us it's not regular season yet and he appears to be a quick learner. We've got a game tonight so let's see what he looks like and take it from there.

Jimmy didn't start his career being careless with the football.

Both qbs in this years super bowl averaged under 6.9 yards a throw. Mahomes and the offense put up 9 points

Dude seriously, are you a Bama fan or a Niner fan? Trey Lance is our QB. You're going to have some long seasons ahead if they just consist of rooting against him.

And we all knew Mac would be pro ready compared to Fields or Lance. It's all about years 3-9 with Lance rather than years 1 and 2 with Lance. We already have Jimmy for years 1 and 2.
a little thread from week 1

Pro Ready? I thought Mac Jones already was a pro last year. After all he played at Alabama.

This dude was all about taking Mac at three and you wouldn't have heard a peep about draft capital if we had done so. He then went quiet after all his bluster about Mac being our pick was a sure thing. Seems he was hooked hard on the media's fishing expedition. Now he's being loud again when the weathervane shifts to his direction. He seems more of a fan of being proven correct than he is of the success of our young, promising QB.
So other than the bad stuff he did, he looked good.

Great analysis. lol

He was good except when he wasn't.

That's pretty much the distilled version of everything.

Lol I think both sides are hilarious. Trey is already a bust on one end of the overreacting spectrum and Trey is almost as good as Jimmy on the other side over 445 passes and one decent preseason outing

That's because you greatly overestimate Jimmy and underestimate Shanahan and the run game. Since Jimmy has been a 49er he has never — not one time — been better than seventh worst in the NFL in interception percentage, if you extrapolate his numbers on the short years to the full 16 games.

This is the difference between Jimmy and Trey right now:

With Jimmy: More sustained drives, more turnovers, same amount of points.

With Trey: More big plays and fewer turnovers, but more punts, same amount of points.

Jimmy has a slight edge here. It is not nearly as big as you think. This was shown in the practice where Trey took first team reps and frankly played better than Jimmy did.

Because Trey can execute everything Jimmy does, and some of it better, except the quick game. Jimmy would be clearly better IF Jimmy played like Alex Smith. But he doesn't. Jimmy executes the quick game very well and then throws incredibly stupefying interceptions. That is the reason. Jimmy is a game manager who throws way too many unnecessary interceptions (good for never being better than 7th worst in the NFL in INT% since he's been here).

Lance's play was rated low. Take away the big shot play and change switch some of those dropped INTs into INTs and it was a poor outing.

So in summary, why is Trey ALMOST as good as Jimmy?

Is it because Trey is so good? Nope.

It's because Jimmy is almost 30 and still makes rookie mistakes.

Take away the drops and his performance looks much better too... It works both ways doesn't it?
i would say Trey's first game in pre-season was average at best, and that's only because of the 80 yard dime. He really should've thrown 2 picks and had a couple other misses. But context matters and 1st game in 18 months i'm going to cut a little slack there. Need to see progress tonight though, incremental or otherwise
