True, but since they signed Newton they are going to be drafting in my opinion in the 12 to 18 pick range so they are going to have to trade the farm to get a top quarterback

They are projected to have a 1st, 2nd, 2 third rounders and 3 fourth rounders. If they finished with the 12th pick they could easily package some picks if they wanted Trevor Lawrence or some other QB. You never know with Belichick.

Sorry but no. Throwing all of these picks into the pot will not move them up to #1 which is where Lawrence is likely to go.

I don't see why players are being paid anything if they opt out. Other employees certainly aren't being paid if they choose not to work due to COVID-19 concerns.

They are being paid 150,000 which is an advance on their 2021 salaries. They aren't getting paid there regular salaries.

Why pay them an advance? If they don't want to work, they shouldn't get a dime.

Well there's this virus thing going on right about now and all...

Football players aren't essential employees. They are being asked to work so the teams and league can make money. The league is paying them if they opt out so they can keep them in the future. It's more a good will thing than anything. If they didn't pay them anything then the players would likely resent it. If a grocery clerk refuses to work, they just hire another one. It's an easier job to fill than football player.

It depends on who ends up with the first pick. If the teams that have the first, second or third pick already have a good young QB prospect and a bad defense, they may be willing to make that trade. There are a lot of good young QB prospects in the league and many are on bad teams that could use D help or WRs. If a team has invested in a QB in the last 2 or 3 years they might want to build other areas of the team. It depends on what the team needs.

Not sure who a lot of these players are so i wonder if you know you're a player on the bubble if you would opt out to get guaranteed pay and avoid being cut
This is what I would do if I were an NFL coach and increase my odds to win a championship this year.

Keep my QB and starting OL in quarantine. Pay them some sort of incentive to do so.

NFL season not going to happen without a bubble.

Can you explain what the categories mean?

A voluntary opt out is usually a player that is opting out for his own personal reasons. Some common examples are a newborn, a pregnant wife or a family member that is at risk.
These players get 150,000 out of their salary which tolls to next year.

A higher risk opt out is a player that has some kind of condition where they are at a high risk such as diabetes, heart issues cancer etc.
These players get 350,000 which is a stipend and I believe they don't need to pay it back.

An unspecified opt out I believe is just a player that has not declared why they're just opting out. This one I'm not too sure about
I believe these players get 150,000 out of their salary as well
