As the U.S. is the modern day Roman Empire, so too are these guys the modern day gladiators.
They may not sacrifice their lives in the arena, but they sacrifice their long term health and future standard of living.
At least they get compensated well these days, which can't be said for those who played a couple of generations or more ago and are vegetables now.
