I'm kinda pissed if this is true. Since the trade with Talib isn't gonna happen than I rather get Trumaine Johnson. But I also want Arob bad so maybe Lynch is trying to balance things out lol
Signing both Johnson and A Rob would be very harsh on our cap space. I have mixed feelings about Butler but I get it. Not sure about Gaines, Melvin or Breeland.
No, it wouldn't be too harsh, we can easily sign Allen Robinson, Trumaine Johnson, plus a OG like Josh Sitton or Josh Kline, a RB like Dion Lewis, Isaiah Crowell or Hyde, a TE like Trey Burton or Levine Toiloilo, and have plenty of cap room to carryover into 2019.
Right now, we're $70M under the 2018 cap(our adjusted cap is $237,018,468(Comprised of $177.2M 2018 cap, $56,048,430 carryover from 2017, & $3,770,038 in Credits/Adjustments)
As of now, we have 42 players signed for 2019, and we're $81,787,688 under with a projected cap of $190M, which is a fair projection, seeing as the cap has risen about $10M a year. By front loading Garoppolo's deal, with that $28M GTD roster bonus, and him having inly a $20M cap number in 2018, and it never goes above $27M, we're set up nicely.
The only potential contract extensions we have to be concerned about are
WR Marquise Goodwin (Free Agent after 2018)
RT Trent Brown (Free Agent after 2018)
DT DeForest Bucker (Scheduled to be a UFA after 2019, but we hold a team option for 2020)
SS Jaquiski Tartt (Free Agent after 2018)
PK Robbie Gould (Free Agent after 2018)
P Bradley Pinion (Free Agent after 2018)
That's the only players under contract right now, not signed long term, that are worth extending.
The team still needs to decide on Arik Armstead's 5th-yr option for 2019, and Laken Tomlinson(highly doubt they pick that up), plus decide if to keep Jimmie Ward(if healthy, if not, we're stuck paying him $8.526M GTD unless he redoes his deal), then we have to pickup options for a few players after 2018.
Garcon's 2019 year is an option year, as is Kyle Juszcyzk's, Cassius Marsh, Daniel Kilgore and Garry Gilliam(the last 2 aren't options, but they're designed to be 1yr deals, with just Kilgore's base being GTD at injury for the entire amount, only $1.5M of Gilliam's $4.5M base is GTD for injury next year).
