Nothing about Cohn is professional, coherent or intriguing. Have zero interest in what that dandruff-laden BS merchant has come up with now.

You have zero interest in what he has to say. Again, totally fair! I am not asking anyone here to have an interest in what GC has to say. All I asked was what, about his specific argument in the above linked article, is problematic. He concludes, "Until Garoppolo signs an extension — if he ever does — this trade isn't as good as it looks." Again, this conclusion seems to me, to be, prima facie, correct.

How about the fact that his argument is mostly conjecture and opinion on how individuals, who he almost certainly has no insight into, will behave?

Even his own piece confirms that Lynch pretty much won't talk to him. And I don't blame him.

There's nothing wrong with reading it, and his theory certainly could be true, but it isn't presented in a credible way.

As an east coast guy I come here and rely on all the news articles. I quickly learned that Cohn and that Kawasaki guy are a*****es. Glad the latter one is behind some paywall now so I never see his s**t.

They should be assigned to the White House press. They could spin anything negative. I guess it's a gift, but it's obviously clickbait to me.

Points to this being an Audition for him.

I hope it is not used as a bargaining chip as is inferred.

I don't think anyone is surprised by this.

So, I guess we'll be seeing him in these next 8 games.
Having to use the tag on him would be a disaster. The agent can leverage those next years of 22, 34 guaranteed against you like Cousins did. People obsess what Wsh offered him but the other side of the street is Cousins's agent told them to add that 50 mil onto his deal. Then if McDaniels comes in to play we may see the exact scenario play out.

I'd just prefer locking him down now. What's the point of a tryout? He's learning the playbook on the fly with no talent around him. If you have expectations for this year you're insane. By next year Cousins will be gone, we passed on another rookie class. Shanny has already bet his career on Jimmy G you might as well just seal that in ink. Give him a team friendly Kap deal if you have to but he's got to be locked up.
The column pointed out that the 49ers could tag Jimmy G, and trade him for more than the 2nd round pick we gave up (highly doubtful). I am fine with having Jimmy back up Beathard right now, learn the play book, and see how he does day in and day out of practice. Shanahan and Lynch will be getting a first hand look at what they have in Jimmy, and if they don't like what they see, they can just keep him as the back up, put a tag on him, and then trade him to the highest bidder as far as draft compensation. Personally I hope Shanahan and Lynch love what they see in him over the next few months, and lock him up to a long term deal, and then bring in pieces to help him succeed through FA and the draft.
Don't understand how this year could even be an audition for Jimmy G. There's no way he can learn the offense in 2 weeks. The real audition would be next season, imo

Exactly. Garoppolo isn't going anywhere unless the niners want him to leave. That article was just BS click bait.

It is an audition in some ways. We get to see him in practice, possibly in games and see how he handles this offense. That's well worth a 2nd round pick to make sure if you're giving a guy big money that he can lead your team and run your offense.
They are in good position regardless of the outcome. You start Jimmy G for the last 6 games. See where he's at. If he falls on his face you cut bait and have a high draft pick or plenty of cap space to go get Cousins. If he plays decent, you tag him and make him show you he can do it for a whole year. If he does you sign him. If he doesn't you gather draft picks and look to FA and the draft. I think it would be a mistake to throw all our eggs in one basket. Take your time admit when your wrong and build the team right. If we want a franchise qb were going to have to pay. Use that damn cap space for once.

If we don't like what we see over the next few months you have to think we'd just let him walk and go after Cousins/ Rosen. We'd get nothing for him because we just told everyone naw dog he sucks.

he holds the niner management responsible and questions the all is rosy outlook with a 0-8 team and that is unlawful. i will just say i agree with grants assessment of the supporting cast around jimmy and if i were jimmy i would dang make sure i get some promises . the team will upgrade the horrid o line. run game and wide out game before i sign anything.

I hope he's the one. Saves us more money then having to go after Cousins, who might not be the one either.
