GMFB just finished a lengthy segment on JimmyG and they basically were at the same place we are.
If he plays now, he :
Doesn't know the playbook
Has no tools to work with.
Has no protection from OL.'
Could start off at a whole different level, way higher than this, after leisurely watching and learning the O over the next 8 weeks.
On the issue of $$$, there' was no consensus on signing him to LT contract now vs franchising him for a yr, or whatever other avenue there is.
It ended up that they pretty much felt it wiser to let him sit with clipboard last half of season. Learn the playbook, allow the F.O to spend the money on WRs, OLs, plus TEs, RBs if needed, and to bulk up D also so we don't have O on field 20 mins to D's 40 min
In summary, all acknowledged we got a schidt show here talentwise, and a LOT of money to fix it with. Also there is the issue of higher draft status with more losses, but they didn't recommend a tank, they just figured that would happen based on the injured, the lousy talent we have at present. They acknowledged that would get us a higher pick but it jiust wasn't worth the risk putting jimmy out there with nothign to work with plus he wouldn't know the plays like he would watching for 8 weeks. Seemed all downside to playing him, and not much upside.
The one thing not addressed was if we end up with a perfect record, ZERO- 16, that could hurt us in attracting good talent in FA. My feelings are guys will come here, but it will just cost us more than it would have otherswise. And they felt fans WOULD wait for jimmyG and not demand he play this yr....doesn't mean they don't want to see him, but they would wait. As far as playing him last two games of season, all the above applies, and that small sample wouldn't be big enough to gauge what his salary should be. I think they got all the high points.

You're reading too much into that. Bill has a track record of sending players away to chit situations/teams when he doesn't like them but don't see that being the case with Jimmy.
I think he can see the team despite the record is trending in a positive direction with John and Kyle at the helm. He has a good relationship with Lynch and knows Kyle is a genius when it comes to X's and O's especially on offense. He knows we have the cap room and he knows we have draft capital to add guys around him. Sending him to an NFC team they play once every 4 years unless they meet in the SB is a smart move.
This. I think he chose to put Jimmy is a position where long term there is a great chance for him to succeed.
Exactly. If the goal is to ensure he's comfortable in this playbook and find any success, 2018 is it.

I'm out here near Foxboro and follow the Pats news on sports radio and it looks like BB is legit disappointed he couldn't convince Jimmy to stay. He spoke about Jimmy glowingly and with actual emotion in his voice, which is very rare with Bill. I feel like Bill really did send Jimmy to SF because he thought it would be beneficial for Jimmy's career. Not like with Jammoe Collins who got into Bills doghouse and then got shipped to Cleveland.

Carter seemed to be right on target. Tried to sign JG to a max contract but he wants to play. His agent let it be known he would not resign with Cleveland, who undoubtedly would screw it up anyway, so he traded with the niners. Basically got a 2nd rounder and Hoyer for JG. Not the worst situation for either team and a good place for JG to land...perhaps the most promising.
For the 9ers this is a wonderful situation. They would have used a 1st or 2nd rounder for a QB in the draft, But now will have a guy with experience. They may still use a pick for a QB if either JG or Beathard do not appear to be good enough...and they have eight weeks to try JG out. Hoyer has been in the NE system, can keep the ship afloat if necessary and they can look for a future QB in the draft.
So exciting to watch JG's release! Very quick and smooth.

I just see a terrible HC, DC and TE coach. He was so bad here.
He's just as terrible as a commentator. He didnt understand the trade or the details at all. Didnt even do 5 mins of research.

I think Jimmy at the very least plays the last two home games and vs LA...he's not a Rookie and it shouldn't take him that long to get a better handle on the playbook than CJ by then...plus our Oline should be healthy at that point.

Yep, totally. The trade was one where both sides won, in my view. The draft candidates aren't gold standard right now. In a couple of years with hindsight, Rosen or one of the others will look like a can't miss but right now it isn't an easy call. I think we would have had to spend our 1st on the position and be prepared for a couple of years developing. I love the trade. Nothing is guaranteed in life but this looks like a really good shot.

yeah true. I'm kinda hoping we bring back Barkley to be the backup. I just hope something doesn't happen to CJ to force Jimmy G in to get killed early.

I don't see saltiness but I do see a guy who may not appreciate all the subtleties of personnel movement (dead lines vs value) kind of like poker imo.
Pretty sure he brought some measure of that way of evaluating a situation to some of his coaching duties.
That's why he's on tv instead of for a team

Saying that Garoppolo and Hoyer are basically the same thing from Bill's perspective? Come on...
He's basically saying the same BS lazy people say "Garoppolo is just another Cassel" just wording it differently.

In the end I think that's the smarter call. This season is pretty much dead now. By the time minicamps start, he will have a pretty good grasp of the offense. Rushing him out there now and your really only setting him up to fail.
Excellent call Willis!
Our OLine is atrocious at best.
He could get really damaged.
Play CJ and let's get the #1 pick in the draft.
