Should the NFL force incompetent owners to divest?

If ownership fails to produce credible football operations in a certain period of time say five to ten years should the NFL force the owners to sell their share?

What should the criteria be and how could it be done?

I'm thinking of us a little bit but mostly teams like San Diego Oakland cleveland who have been at the bottom for over a decade.

Ownership shouldn't get a free ride the fans deserve better. In theory with the salary cap there shouldn't be a major Market bias anymore.
No. Just like uncle Sam shouldn't force people to buy health insurance.

lol very separate issues. nice fail though.

but to answer the question, yes. all of us in the work place have to produce, if not we get fired. big company CEOs can get replaced as well. and same in the NFL, players, coaches, trainers, etc., don't do their job right they can also get fired. shouldn't be a difference with owners.

They aren't the equivalent of CEOs. That would be the GM. They are the owners.
It depends on your definition of incompetent. If a team never spends money to go after players and doesnt try to be competitive at all then I would say yes. However, if a team is active in free agency and doesnt penny pinch when it comes to hiring top coaches and a GM then I would say NO even if they are not successful.

The good owners need crappy owners to whoop on.
The nfl doesnt have the equivalent of promotion/relegation to mark year over year performance.

Why cant owners be held accountable for chronic ineptitude? The criterion could be absolute not relative so even if you had the worst record in the league for fove years in a row you still may not be forced to divest.

Guys like Steve Jobs, Neeleman, Yang, and others have been basically kicked out of their own company.
Are there enough billionaires around to be shedding owners like a that? It's not like replacing a hc or gm.

Leave it as it is, many a dynasty has a down cycle. Many a future Super Bowl winner had a stretch of 5 bad years or more. As long as an owner follows the rules and doesn't commit crimes they deserve to continue to own the team no matter what the record. As you can see even bad teams have loyal fans and make money for the league.

They didnt own the companies. They started them were driving force behind the success of the company, but in the end they answer to the Board of Directors.

They should restrict the ludicrous amounts of public money they get to build stadiums etc. from their hometowns plus all the other sources of cash they get. The people are already paying for tickets, why should they buy the building for them as well? Bad football teams should send their owners broke so they sell the team... currently bad football teams still make their owners millions.

They won't in a million years though.
I was thinking about this the other day. And while I vehemently agree with reliving incompetent owners from their privileges, there's no way in hell that would fly with current owners. This would devalue the nfl franchises by a great margin; to have your team ripped out from you by force for being incompetent. These owners are wealthy and stupid simultaneously, and in their mind, why should they adapt and become somewhat competent?
