No, he was the 2nd #1 pick the year before in 2016, after Buckner. The #1 pick in 2017 after Kaep won that game was Thomas.

It cost us Garrett.

They would never have selected Trubisky or Mahomes, especially with Garrett available at #1. Shanny was not gonna draft a QB in the 1st when they were both coming from non-pro style college offenses, especially when he expected to get a free agent vet with pro style experience in the 2018 offseason (Cousins, though Jimmy would have been a free agent, too).

Shanny strategy was to gave Garnett and wilson alot of playing time in the preseason, just to release them.

Garnett played a full preseason game iirc.
