Wasn't there an issue with his girlfriend that ended up with kap or something? Maybe the alcohol had a lot to do with that situation and now he's grown past it. I wish him the best, it sucks for us that he flamed out, but i'll be rooting for him to have a good comeback and hopefully he finds the right balance. I agree though that he won't be the same kind of impact player he was before.

Me too. He hasn't murdered anyone or a abused his wife/girlfriend (that I know of) always a fan of previous 49er, as long as they don't play us that week.

Aldon and Bosa would have been a nightmare to contend with, oh well.

Smith hasn't played a snap of football since 2015, and he really hasn't been a dominant player since 2013. I sincerely doubt he'll be a difference-maker.

Still, even if he manages to be a solid role player, this would be an amazing story. I, too, am rooting for him to succeed. Alcoholism is a really debilitating condition, and it's sad to see someone with so much talent throw their career (and life) away.
