Talk about a decline. He didn't look so hot in 2012, a serious decline from 2011, but 2013 was even worse. I haven't seen him play much this season. Has he really been that bad (worse than he was last year with us?)
When you think about it, it hasn't gone well for most free agents that left during the HarBaalke era. Josh Morgan, Dashon Goldson (more so because of the fines), and now Isaac Sopoaga.

Soap always kinda sucked. Then you factor in getting older.

All Soap was asked to do is NOT get blown up. He was serviceable (quasi) at that but never did anything more.
Basically his job was to be a pole. When he left the 49ers, he couldn't do that anymore.

RJF did respectably with Indy but he's in prime career. Ike on the other hand was in decline. Harbaugh knows when it's time to let players go.

Dorsey is an upgrade over Soap. Dorsey actually made several plays this season.

Usually you overpay in FA for players who used to be good 5 years ago.

So freaking overrated it was unbelievable, can't believe how many people cried about how this defense was "missing Soap." He had a solid year in 2011, not a great year, not even a good year really, a solid year, prior to that he had been mediocre. In 2012 he went back to being mediocre and now he's just completely fallen off the map. Dorsey and Williams were both improvements over him.

Ian Williams was already better than soap was at the beginning of training camp last year.

To do what, hand out Gatorade on the sidelines?

Yeah but Ian Williams is still mediocre. Not sure where the hype was stemming from this year before he got hurt.

we can get him for a vet min. A shrewd GM would see the cap savings in the long run

Like I said before....to do what exactly? He's not a better player than Ian Williams or Glenn Dorsey, he's old and would only get in the way of a guy like Dial developing. He's got nothing to offer this team.

Dorsey is going to get $2.3 million to be a backup? Nice luxury, but we can get a cheaper vet
