Local media is a different story. Tim Kawakami, Ray Ratto and Lowell Cohn make a living off agitating the team and fanbase. Florio is national media, and showing favoritism at the national level helps lose a lot of credibility in the eyes of many. That's why Mike Silver has been able to ascend to the national level even though he started out as a Press Democrat beat writer for the Niners.

Is this something unique to the Bay area teams or just sports towns in general. Obviously in Canada we don't have the level of sports that are down here. But ever since moving here I notice that the writers always seem to be trying to cause s**t where there isn't s**t. Try to tear the team down.

Does this happen in other big sports cities like Chicago or NY?

yes, especially in NY. case in point, the ny jets circus year in and year out

Yeah, I think it originates from the NYC, East Coast and Chicago sports press. They started digging into the personal lives of sports personalities, which magnified their play on the field. Play great under the bright lights and you became famous ie. Joe Namath. Play bad, and you get thrown to the wolves ie. Mark Sanchez. Ray Ratto and Lowell Cohn have very East Coast personalities.

Try this - go to Google and type in "Mike Florio" and pay attention to the very first thing in the drop down window (the one that shows up below the search window when you begin to type) where Google gives you options for what it thinks you may want to finish your search entry.

Here's today's regularly scheduled hate from Florio:

"Harbaugh's apparently too busy coaching up the 49ers to come up with new material, as it was derivative of the "diabolical," diatribe about the Peyton Manning reports, and his combine paean to Judge Judy."

Brian Billick had the 49ers ranked all the way up to #2 this week.

The latest gem from Florio:

49ers Wouldn't Stop Harbaugh From Going to Texas

Well I hope we shut his mouth along with all the other Seattle dick riders come playoff time.

sounds about right. Maybe Carolina should be ranked ahead of us. But we're better than the saints and broncos fer shure.
some additional gem from florio today, 2 in one day! im not even gonna link but this is about the farewell to candlestick

While there's a chance — albeit very slim — that the 49ers will host a postseason game at Candlestick Park, Monday night's game will be, for all practical purposes, the last game ever played there. Which means that things could get a little out of hand.

The team already has announced that seats from Candlestick Park can be purchased. There's a pretty good chance that plenty of fans will try to physically remove plenty of seats at the last game.

There's also a pretty good chance that the place also could be otherwise trashed, to the point where it would be a Herculean effort to get the 'Stick ready for one last playoff game, such as an unprecedented contest between the No. 5 seed and the No. 6 seed.
