Punting is stupid. Game over. You need 2 TDs to tie!

They do remind me somewhat of our 2011 team. Their secondary is better but our front 7 was the best in football. On O, Charles is such a unique, fun player but other than him we were probably stronger. Alex is probably putting up better numbers this season though because he's progressed somewhat and Charles is such a dual threat.

That was, what, a net 25 yard punt? Worthless

Jason Cole @JasonPhilCole
Bingo RT @mikefreemanNFL: Either trust Alex Smith or don't. But this offense is disgraceful.

Eh, it's not nearly as bad as SF's offense. The WRs have far too many drops, and they hurt themselves with penalties far too often. But the play calling and execution by Smith and o-line is pretty great, and Charles is a dynamic runner. Not trying to go for it on 4th down there when down 14 and 12 minutes less was a bad coaching decision. Just gave up the game.

When they do bring pressure Manning knows exactly where the mismatches are and kills you. That is why we rush to few and play so much nickel against these teams, many times today Brees had time but simply couldn't find anyone open. Same thing when we've beaten ARod the last 3 times or whatever.

most offenses look "disgraceful" when being compared to Denver

Alex is completing 46% of his passes for 163 yards and 1 TD.

In retrospect, SF should have offered him about a billion dollars in the 2012 offseason. It would have been amazingly entertaining to see Manning pissed off with Roman's play calling every week.

Manning is his own OC, no need for Roman

So? Punting loses the game because you run out of time. I'd rather take the chance my WR doesn't drop it this time and have a chance to score than forfeit the gain for a 25 yard field position swing that is meaningless.
And oh look - now you're down 17 and the game is truly over and you never even took the chance to win.

Exactly. You can play not to lose against the Jaguars, Bills and Raiders, but not Peyton.

Manning ultimately didn't want to come here, dollar figures were probably similar but I also think he wanted to stay in the AFC. Manning would have run the offense himself, he would have sat down with Roman and implemented a game plan suited to his strengths and we would have won the SB last year. When you sign a guy like Manning he will call a lot of the shots. It's not like this is the same O they ran when McCoy was coaching Tebow, they were 2nd in points last year and will likely finish first this year. Manning makes the O, his OC doesn't have a huge impact at this point in his career.
