Minnesota Ojibwe here ....I could care less about the name ...and I cant name one member of my family that has ever been offended by the name ...probably because we have been called much worse ...hell ...I have cousins that are redskins fans and own the teams merchandise ....it seems to us its the urban Indians that are leading the charge to get the name removed ...us native americans that live on the reservations could care less about the name ...we have more difficult issues to deal with, rather than stew over a team mascot

Just call them the Washington Americans already. Washington saves face, and pokes Dallas in the eye by being new "America's" team, and we can go back to watching football!

How bout something honoring native americans instead of insulting them? Could even keep the logo. Braves maybe?

Thank you and right on the money. If Native Americans think the term Redskins is a racist term (and of course it's probably the most racist name in all of professional sports), then they're the first ones we should listen to on this. This entire "slippery slope" or "politically correct" argument is just a lame diversion that allows people to live with this kind of nonsense. "Redskins" has it's origin firmly placed in the long-running historical American project some of us know as genocide. There are a couple offensive names for Jews they used in Europe as they were trying to commit genocide on them and I'm guessing that if we had a professional team with those names peoples' heads would explode. And I don't give two s**ts about somebody who isn't offended or who doesn't think people should care about this kind of thing. So what? Some things are just offensive and if some people can't see that, it's their problem.

If you don't mind the popular use of a racial expletive used by people who were trying to wipe your people off the face of the earth, that's your deal. I get that there are more important things. But, I know lots of Native Americans who don't live in cities who are deeply offended by the word. I have to honor their feelings on this issue.
