I still have his niner jersey. I followed his career at Cal. Very fast, very athletic , just somewhat small for a DE.
He wasn't strong enough to beat elite Olinesmen. His speed definitely compliments his faults doe.
He would've been a great T.E. He has/had that Vernon body.

we should have signed him instead of mr o.u.i. carter, even at this age,, could have helped give us a little shot in pass rush in my opinion.

2001. Smith was the 4th pick and Carter was the 7th pick.
Carter is a few months older.

Always liked him as a player. Seemed like a really good guy.

He has just had some bad luck somewhat.
IMO he was in his prime when he was with the Patriots, then, well, he blows out his knee or whatever.
Who knows how bad that injury impacted his speed.

I remember 2000 and 2001 drafts, when we had like the 3rd pick in 2000, traded with Washington to get 2 1sts, ended up with Julian Peterson and Ahmaed Plummer, only guy left is Jennings. Then 2001, we traded up I believe for Andre, gave up a 3rd to get up a few spots, that was a Mooch pick, he recruited him at Cal, not sure he ever played for Mooch before he was drafted.
I didn't realize he was a bit older than Justin, but Carter was amazing for the Patriots, 10 sacks in 14 games. but a quad injury(i bleieve) ended his season). I never saw Carter in the 3-4 though, reason why he wasn't retained.
