Palmer demands trade, Cincy owner says it won't happen: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/619613-kyle-orton-named-starter-how-long-will-it-be-before-tebow-is-back
Pakers don't seem interested in trading Flynn: http://blogs.sacbee.com/49ers/archives/2011/02/packers-in-no-h.html
Kolb trade has been beat to death the Eagles want a small island for this dude and I don't blame them. They will need him and depending on when Vick gets hurt this year he could wind up being their MVP. I personally think Reid may still think Kolb is their future QB and he may just go with Vick until his star dims and teams figure him out or he loses a little bit of speed.
God I hope Harbaugh and Luck have something up their sleeve. My pipedream is Luck declares for the supplemental draft and says he will sit the season and will not play for any team other than the 49ers who get him for a 2nd round bid! I know will never happen but I can dream damn it !
But seriously we may be F'd at QB. My God I can't take ANOTHER season with a s**t QB.
Maybe we can get Josh Johnson and turn him into something? Still doesn't make me all that confident. Going to be a long offseason of obsessing over QB (not to mention OLB and CB as well as the re-signing status of our own FAs especially Franklin)

I think Flynn, Palmer, and Kolb are all still available, and all for less than a first round pick.
Just depends on if Harbaugh wants them, and if there's a bidding war.

Why would the Cincy owner cave in March? If Palmer doesn't show up for training camp the owner might feel differently.

I think Harbaugh knows that the upcoming lockout might not end until late August or early September. Giving teams very little time (a few days?) to sign free agents or trade for players and prepare for the season.
If Harbaugh convinces Alex to re-sign for another year (prior to the lockout) then it's my guess that Harbaugh hopes Alex would gather players together during the lockout to practice the way Joe Thiesman did during the 80's strike/lockout.
If the lockout ends quickly (before the summer) then Alex has very little chance of returning to the team.

id rather we try to get smith to resign and then draft a guy or two. hes better than whatever else is out there and harbaugh seems to see something in him and in all honesty he wasnt bad last year. better than trading for someone like kolb and finding out hes a scrub after u blew pics on him.

i wish i could cut the film of all of alex's plays over his career and just post them to end this silly debate. Alex Smith is a good...wait for it....#2 QB in the NFL. Harbaugh has to know that, I pray to God he is just keeping options open if worst case scenerio with the CBA happens and we have zero time to get anyone to replace him.
Another thing I bet Harbaugh wants to do with talking to Alex is pick his brain about the other players on offense. He's a smart guy at the very least and can probably give JH a little insight on how these guys operate. Just another angle to think about.

Yeah, but Smith has to want to come back, too. And, unless he loves to hear the fans booing every time he throws an incomplete pass, I don't see him coming back.

Pfft. I don't really want Flynn, Orton, or Palmer anyway.
McNabb
Kolb
Newton
Gabbert
Locker
Tebow
V. Young
plenty of options

It's a very real possibility that the only advocate for Tebow in Denver has left the building (McDaniels). He may be available.
And, he's the real deal.
