Quote:
Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com is reporting that pending a physical, the Seattle Seahawks will sign quarterback Nate Davis.

The Ball State product was drafted in the fifth round by San Francisco in the 2009 draft, and released by the Niners in September to make room for Troy Smith as the team's third quarterback.

The Seahawks have not confirmed the move, and would have to make a spot on the active roster should they sign Davis.

Davis is known as a quarterback with a big arm and good athletic ability, but raw in terms of knowing and understanding the details of what it takes to be a good quarterback in the league. The move is one that most teams take at the end of a year -- looking at players that could help them down the road. But this move is interesting because it makes you wonder what type of impact it will have on whether Matt Hasselbeck stays or goes moving forward.

As you know, Hasselbeck is in the final year of his contract and the Seahawks were expected to draft a developmental quarterback to groom as a potential quarterback of the future.

But with Andrew Luck choosing to stay in school and the Seahawks projected to pick at No. 25 overall, maybe they do not believe a good prospect will be left for them at that spot in the first round, and would rather take a shot on someone with potential like Davis, while keeping Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst in the fold for another season.

Also, with the uncertainty of the CBA negotiations creating instability in the trade and free agency market, maybe Seattle wanted to get their developmental guy now.

Also, Seahawks senior personnel executive Scot McCloughan headed San Francisco's personnel department when Davis was drafted, so he knows what type of player Seattle is getting.

In six preseason games, Davis completed 52 of 93 pass attempts for 615 yards, including three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Also, Brian McIntyre reports that the Seahawks have brought back linebacker Vuna Tuihalamaka, adding him to the practice squad.
