Now this is a shock, wtf ? Ed Reed is the f**kin man, I would be surprised to see him retire this offseason. He's the best free safety I've ever seen play the game.

I hope that's because you're too young to have seen Hanks and Lott play.

I consider Lott a strong safety. He was nowhere near the ballhawk Ed Reed is.

And yes Reed >>> Hanks

you remember seeing Lott and Hanks play?

what were you about 6-7 when Hanks retired, 3 when Lott did?

I don't see why we'd consider Lott a SS, dude played Corner at 1 time right? He had safety skills right? I was watching that 81 NFC champship game on XMAS EVE and he was robbed of a pick. He definitely had good ball skills from what I've seen.

ugh best safety in football..

he better not...he plays another 4-5 years and he is a sure fire hall of famer...deservedly too, but i dont know how a safety retires young and still makes the hall even with how good he is/was...

not that young

he aint that old...

he isn't a short shelf life running back...safety is one of the few skill positions which can play in the league for a considerable amount of time compared to others..

63 Interceptions over 14 years compared to 46 interceptions over 8 years. Reed averages a little more than 1 interception per year. Seems close enough to me...

I remember watching Hanks play a little. I watched a lot of games in the past from old VHS tapes my grandma recorded and gave to me.

Idk, maybe he was way better at safety than he was at corner. All I know is that he played about 5 more years at SS than he did at FS

Well if Reed said himself that his injuries are catching up then maybe he's almost ready to hang it up. Only 8 years ?! I would be crying if I was a Ravens fan.

Man you guys are a bunch of homers.

You don't hear about Hanks anymore. In 10-20 years, everybody will still remember Ed Reed

Right, it doesnt make sense for him to retire right now. Ther is alot of emotions going through him right now. Believe me, he will be back next season.
I had no idea he was contemplating retirement, the guy still plays at a very high level. I'm surprised by the news.

I think he just wants out of Balt. he just doesn't want to say it.

i.e. Farve -Jets
Anybody who thinks that Merton Hanks compares to Reed is clueless.

Reed is a 4-time 1st team all-pro. Hanks only was selected once. Not too mention the ballskills that Reed has.
