The Buffalo Bills have named defensive coordinator Perry Fewell the interim replacement for fired head coach Dick Jauron. But they might be looking for a long-term replacement who will make a big splash.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Bills have contacted Mike Shanahan to gauge Shanahan's interest in becoming their next head coach.

ESPN also reports that the process is underway of arranging a meeting between Shanahan and the Bills.

Shanahan, who won two Super Bowls as the head coach of the Denver Broncos, would presumably want complete control of all football decisions. Given that the Bills are likely looking at a front-office shakeup in addition to a new head coach, that probably wouldn't be a problem for Bills owner Ralph Wilson.

Shanahan was fired early this year after coaching the Broncos from 1995 to 2008

Now that would be a great hire by the Bills, they need a real name guy for once. He could probably bring in Kubiak as offensive coordinator if the Texans axe him. Considering that Trent Edwards is a back up at best, the Bills to me are taking a QB in the draft and what better guy to coach him than Shanny

Yes, great hire because it keeps him out of the NFC.
Damn think of what Shanahan can do with Jake Locker or Sam Bradford.
Strong move. I've been a little harsh on Shanahan so I'm gonna wonder how this all turns out for the Bills.

That's a tough division as well.

Mike Shanahan vs. Bill Belichick twice a year...
I think that Cowher is a better fit for that team.

the Bills haven't had a great coach since Levy left town...imagine what this could do, maybe even keep the team from relocating to Canada. I imagine the Bills could make the playoffs pretty quickly once he took over, Buffalo has just had vanilla coaches for quite awhile now. Bills need a QB, but they aren't totally a lost cause. Plus Shanny would most likely have complete control just like he did in Denver, a can't lose situation

Nothing with the blocking deficient OL.

Yeah I forgot it's that simple to turn O-Lineman who are both run and pass blocking deficient into all pro blockers.

The ZBS might help them early on running the ball but pass blocking will require them to actually learn technique.
I think they might not get a big name coach. No free agents want to play there. The owner is cheap. the weather is awful, and the team could be possibly moving to Canada No Thanks. I still think he takes the skins job if the Chicago job doesn't open up. can't blame Buffalo for going after him though.

hey baby, use the run to set up the pass.

Shanny would do wonders with a new QB on that team, regardless of the line, all it takes is a couple draft picks and FAs
Location, Location, Location

Shanahan would not go to Buffalo. He's a west coast guy. Has a house in Baja Cali. He's waiting for Norv to get fired so he can stick it to the Raiders and Broncos twice a year again.
