UDFA is important. I have a clear vision of the 49ers needing one reception and Malik Turner dropping the ball. You gotta have guys that you can bring up for a game or two and make a play.
Between 25% and 30% of players in the NFL are UDFAs. I was surprised when I saw that stat.
Wow, I had no idea it was that many and looked into it. It has been this way since the 70's. Around 10% of starters are UDFA. Interesting.
I'm sure that number increased after the league expanded. More teams meant fewer picks for each team and a thinner talent pool. Eight tems had less than half their draft picks still on the team after 3 years. That includes players that are injured . As we know some of them end up getting released because they never get healthy.
Being GM in the NFL is a lot harder than many fans realize. I'm sure they get just as disappointed as the fans when players don't pan out since they put so much into trying to build a team.
