Brenton Strange, TE, Penn St.

Would really love to see him Along side Kittle.

Atheletic testing was good enough. Not elite by any means, but checks the box. His hips look stiff when he runs, but he has some realllllly strong hands. Still want.

I'm glad it wasn't elite. If he ran a 4.5, we'd have no shot. I'm settling in on some combo of Strange, Robinson, and the best OT remaining. Could come out with 3 eventual or starting caliber players.
Later day 3 TE I can get behind.

It's a pretty good tight end class. I'd personally guess round five or six, but definitely talented enough to go way sooner.

I can't see all those tight ends going within 100 picks.
Is he a better prospect than Will Mallory from Miami? I do like his YAC.

Imo, yes and it's not particularly close
Strong TE class, but looking back the last 15 years I dont see more than 8 TEs going before round 4. So just depends how you have these guys ranked. I've got Strange as a round 5 guy. Personally, I think most teams are looking for TE1 upside and will value some of these lighter guys that move faster, have more YAC yards, and can be a reception hog. Some of these higher rated prospects are more the Engram/Gesicki/Njoku/Higbee type as a move or slot TE, and I dont think the 49ers are looking for that. Yes, we want a T2 that can catch and is a threat, but blocking in line or as an H back are strongly desired traits as well. Darnell Washington would be perfect in this offense, but thats not happening. Kraft would be really interesting. Strange and Schoonmaker are more likely candidates, but wouldnt be surprised if they didnt see the field in year 1.

This. I'm not seeing him going top 100

If it's a TE/HB prospect then Brayden Willis might be the pick. I know SF has met with him. He's a later day 3 guy

If they block well, they will see the field. When you add in the potential to offer more in the passing game- my guess is that if we get one of these guys they will get some opportunities, especially if they show out in camp. I wouldn't expect an immediate elevation to no. 2 TE, but they could work their way there by season's end.

Yup these are the 3 ( Willis, Strange, Schoonmaker) that fit that role perfectly and I would be happy with all 3 of them. I hope we take one in the first 5 rounds and then I hope we can snag a more developmental pass catcher later like Noah Gindorff.
Mel and Todd both have him going in round 2 now. Was fun while it lasted
