I think every fan base is the same. I'm extremely impatient and illogical when it comes to the 49ers, especially during a game. I'm passionate and it clouds my judgment. I just still don't understand spending 3 fest round picks on a 3 year project when they will have to pay him a huge contract 2 years later if he pans out. It makes no sense.

If our huge contract is for a kid playing like Deshaun Watson I'll be happy. If he's not I'll continue to drink and wait for the next rebuild and feel bad that Bosa is stuck on this team.

The disconnect is that Jones, right now, looks like a mid level starting qb, Fields and especially Lance, have a long way to come before they are. Yes, the hypothetical ceilings are higher due to their tools….but Brady and Manning busted through all ceilings by being off the charts mentally/preparing, pre snap, anticipation, leadership, and helping their linemen out by getting the ball out quick.

I've always been against putting a ceiling on a player. I just don't get why people want to in essence stop the count when prior to the draft most people considered Fields and Lance as projects but if they ever start to perform at their talent level will make their offenses incredibly hard to contain running or passing. This is not me saying Mac can't lead a great offense it's just going to be a more traditional offense.

You list 2 hall of famer a, the exception, over the rule. That is ok, anything is possible, but history tells us he's more likely to be an Andy dalton or worse (he certainly won't have as good of a rookie campaign as Dalton).
But, we just don't know yet, it's all guessing

Isn't that what we are doing with Josh Allen and Trey Lance?
Mac is showing now that the least he will be is Dalton esque. If you watch the games tho he has actually been good, their receivers are awful and need to open up the playbook some.
You take a qb like him mid first every year and it's a win.

Im doing nothing with Trey. I think all the rookies are a work in progress & it's strange (but not unexpected) people would try to finalize a career after 5 games.
I actually like Mac! I said before the draft, preseason, whenever that I think he will be a good player and have a good career. I also said if the niners drafted him, its status quo. Which I don't think that's a good awful thing at 12, and if you are of the opinion we shouldn't have traded up there is definitely a compelling argument to be made for that
But once you trade up to 3 you swing for the fences imo, and that was either lance or fields. That doesn't mean the niners or bears (or jets or jags!) were right to pass on Mac, but no one will be able to make that accurate assessment for a couple more years

Ultimately you can't be sure what any of these rookies will look like in a few years. Some of that, coaching, surrounding talent, possible injury issues is largely out of their control but QB's don't all develop the same so really its worth waiting to see how they progress...or not progress as time goes on.

True. I also think unicorns like Herbert & Kyler have set kind of an unrealistic expectations amongst various fan bases on what a QB should be year one. But it's fun to discuss!

Taking Mac at 3 would be damn near criminal. Taking Mac at 3 + 2 1sts even more criminal.
At 12 no issues w it.
Had to be Lance/Fields after making that trade.

I agree with all that. I didn't like the trade up as it just made no sense to me as I saw a top two, but didn't feel either of Mac, Lance or Fields were worth trading up for.
I wanted to stay out and take a tackle.

And the big danger there is if our season totally goes off the rails & fins get a top 5-10 pick

Question: How much is different from the way Jimmy delivered the ball in the pocket from a timing and velocity perspective, and now you're dealing with a 23-year-old rookie. What's the difference?
Bourne: "The velocity part is just -- Mac, he's throwing it hard, but when you catch it, it's like a pillow. I can definitely say that. He's special, man. Jimmy's got a rifle and it comes in harder. That's the difference I would say about the two. Timing-wise, I wouldn't say they're that different. They're both pretty solid. It's all about the pocket and pressure and stuff like that. Velocity is just the most difference between them, that's what I would say.
Jimmy throws with velocity?! Lol
