I've been leaning this way as well. Is he having a great year or is Wilson's backyard scrambling giving him time to get open and get some easy looks?

It'd be interesting to see how many catches DK has made while Wilson is in the pocket vs Wilson scrambling. Based on the games Ive seen Id think about 50/50, but thats also par for the course with Wilson.
DK gets a ton of favorable looks due to wussle. I mean he's still what he is, a threat in that offense, but you can't just plug him in on a normal offense and expect the same

How much of that is on Russell's scrambling? Not much at all. Like 3 plays.

our fans consider them "lucky" looks

When you watch that vid, do you see a guy that wouldn't fit in our scheme?

Lots and lots of pocket passes there. Biggest lie in the world that he doesn't fit our scheme. He fits every scheme. He is outstanding.
I wouldn't say he fits our scheme as you got to look at the routes but the idea that Russell is extending plays and throwing him open is off base. Any oc/qb could use him.

Yeah who could use a 6'4" 230 lb WR who can run a 4.3. And post almost a thousand yards and 7 TD's as a rookie. We don't need that. Lets give that to Russell Wilson instead.

We didn't give DK to Seattle and Wilson though. We chose to go with a different player whose skill set we preferred for our system in Deebo.

There were 28 picks in between Deebo and DK and 5 other receivers came off the board in between. 32 teams passed on the kid once, and many of them passed on him twice which speaks to how he was viewed. Maybe it was his interviews, maybe it was medicals, but teams passed for a reason and we do know he got testy/didn't keep his cool in his interview with us at the combine.

Yeah we could have used that, but we also got basically the same production from a 5'11" 215lb WR. Technically more total yards in 1 less game.

We got a productive player that Kyle likes and felt was a better fit. Why keep arguing over this. It won't change anything and unless Deebo regresses next year there's no reason to be disappointed with the pick. In 1985 the Jets picked AL Toon and the Bengals picked Eddie Brown ahead of Jerry Rice. The Niners could have picked Jesse Hester instead of Rice. They were all bigger names than Jerry but Bill liked what he saw in Rice. Could Brown or Hester have been as good as Rice in Walsh's system?

People keep showing non-scramble plays. It's not about if a scramble happens, it's the possibility. Eagles had to assign their FS as a spy, pulling him out of coverage. That's what I mean by looks.
DK isn't even the best deep threat guy in this draft class.

Excellent post....
He's a good player. But people are acting like he has a full route tree... the majority of the routes shown on that highlight with Wilson staying in the pocket were slants and go routes. He uses his size excellently on both those routes, boxing out, getting off press, coming back for backshoulder passes or just going up for the ball better than anyone in the vicinity.

But it shows he went to a great system too and benefits from a great QB. Even when in the pocket Wilson gets more time than most because DE's are scared AF of pinning their ears back knowing he will use his midget magic and escape. DK is gonna do great things in that role, but those arent exactly precise routes and still shows he is a long strider... which after 3 drafts, Shanny's notable priorities when it comes to receivers is route running and change of direction.
