Last year I wanted Barnett (too bad there were not as many QB prospects and QB hungry teams-niners would have had a killing). Anyway, he was a way better prospect than Sweat and Og is and on a talented team like the Eagles he got 5 sacks. Not saying they can't, get more, but how much can they contribute as 4th rounders with questionable health?
Marsh will have his first off season with the niners. He came to the niners like Jimmy, in the middle of the season. So the niners want to see what he can do, they probably feel because he is more familiar and healthy seasoned, that he can do more than they (Sweat and Og) can. He is similar in that he too was a 4th rounder.
The niners probably will make a run in 2019 draft if they (marsh and Att) don't work out. Plus people forget they can always bring back D.

I think for next year, ShanaLynch is preparing for another blockbuster trade (like the Jimmy Trade) but this time for an edge rusher.
I'd like if that was true about Landry. But he had been gone for a while when we traded up.

Injured his foot in training with the team. Should be back by the end of camp, and will compete for a starting OLB position.

Doesn't have crazy competition in front of him Vs Ebukam(Not to be confused for Ekubam) and Longacre.
Will compete at nickle edge as well, obviously.

Imo if we really wanted Landry we would've made a move before the draft kicked off. Think about it, a strong edge is something seen as possible the last piece... We've shown we haven't been shy of trading up like we did for Foster at the end of the 1st.
If we felt like we had to have Landry, we would've got him once again, in my opinion. Anyhoot it'll be interesting to keep tabs on this rookie edge class.

I wanted Barnett too but he was a reach at 3 while Thomas was a better ideal pick at 3.

If he's in true competition for a starting spot tells me that coaches are high on him and was a steal. Geez, another player that I also wanted.

Not much competition with Ebukam who was undrafted last year and Longacre who was also undrafted but did have 5.5 sacks last year to his credit. Elvis had 6.5 and he's still on the streets.

Barnett is and always was the superior player and he's the far better fit given our current roster.
Thomas isn't a bad player but he was massively overrated (i.e. from all the people saying he could successfully line up anywhere) and he was a horrible fit for our roster - which led to him playing out of position for 71% of his snaps.

Still bummed out we never drafted him. Tremendous value in the fifth round. Too bad we didn't get to see him play. Hopefully DJ Reed and Street end up showing our scouts were right and they prove to be the better players.
Comparing his tape to the edge rushers from this years draft and dude isn't far off in technique.

I feel the same. I really would've loved to see us take a chance on him since he dropped so far.

As for edge rushers, would've been pretty exciting to roll him out, our first round pick and a free agency pickup for the 2019 season.

Why you bring that up brah?
We traded up to draft a FS to play CB. Then draft a DT to redshirt. Then a CB to play FS. Instead of this dude that even his biggest critics on gere would admit he should have been either one of those picks.
These mid round blunders and giving away free picks is what's stopping us from taking the next step.
Moving up for besthard.
Moving up for joe Williams
Moving up for pettis (love Pettis but no need to give away free picks)
Moving up for a FS no one heard of to convert him to CB. WTF???
Drafting a CB to play FS.
Seriously, there had to be a CB available in that 3rd that we KNOW can play CB. Then we coulds kept our puck had OO. Same as there had to a FS in the 5th we KNOW can play FS.
Outsmarting ourselves while rebuilding.
