Probably...good thing we took the guy in the 5th. Same thing we wish we could say right now lol

I have a funny feeling this guy would've dropped beyond 5th and even undrafted...

It's obvious Shanny has high hopes on him / sees something special in him, hence the reach... hope it isn't just wishful thinking.
Not sure I understand the move up. I don't see any teams that would have gone after him. Well, imma trust that this is a guy that Shanny has wanted to develop. What I've been reading about this kid he fits with what Shanny wants to do offensively:

Pro Football Focus - "Beathard's arm is very good, as he can make the majority of NFL throws. He is a fastball thrower, with little to no finesse in his game of being a true passer. When he is playing in rhythm and knows where to go with the ball, he delivers on time and accurately. Certain throws required to throw up and over defenders he struggles with, as he needs a clear lane to throw through. The biggest questions come with his feel in the pocket and ability to see the field clearly to consistently get through reads, as well as decision-making particularly late in the down. Beathard's arm and overall game is enough to warrant a late-round selection and a chance to develop as a third-string QB."

I think we have a kid that Shanny can take his time to develop and clean him up. He played in a pro-style system, so I think the academics of the pro game won't be a major learning curve as some of the other QB's. So, In Shanny I Trust.

I'm good with it. Shanny just might draft another QB.

Well... he could have a pretty high ceiling which I guess is what you want from a QB in this sort of round - probably higher than Peterman. Gonna have to trust Shanahan on this one.

CJs seems like a project. I'm cool as long as Shanahan REALLY likes what he saw.
I should give the guy a break. He did finish 96th in yards per game, averaging 148 yards a game.

What about last year, when they went to the Rose bowl and he actually had a few weapons to throw to? (I'll admit The Rose bowl game it'self wasn't so good tho) His only "Legit" Wr went down in week 3 -4 this year. he was throwing to a bunch of back ups and Redshirt freshmen, not a recipe for throwing success. Even Kittle (who most on this board likes) couldn't stay healthy for most of the season. So Iowa did what most teams would do in that situations, they handed the ball off.

I think Shanahan only values QBs that listen to exactly what he tells them to do. He's so unwilling to bend towards a given QB that he only works with guys that he truly feels like he can own. Basically wants to control his QBs like an avatar, with no independent deviations allowed. A true megalomaniac, without any rings to show for it.
