I know we have Gore but he is the last year of his current deal. Lattimore, whom we all love is a question mark and may never become the same player and Hunter is probably best served in a backup role. I know we have some needs in the secondary and potential depth issues on both lines but if he is the top guy on our board, I would love to see him run for us. What do you guys think? Or is he a luxury we cannot afford in the 2nd round?
I was just about to create a post about Hyde! I think we should do it if he's available, now that we traded for Johnson. A two-headed monster in Hyde and Lattimore once Gore is gone would remind me of the one in Carolina a few years ago with Stewart and Williams. We are a run first team and Hyde is much better than LaMichael.
One of my mocks I had us trading back from the first to draft Jimmie Ward and Hyde in the 2nd.
Oh...and as a Wolverine fan I HATE Ohio State. So no bias here. Hyde is just that good,

Not sold on our runningbacks. Gore=old, Lattimore=injuries and we don't really know if he's good or not, LMJ=bust, Hunter=too small, Jewel Hampton=who. We should draft one, Hyde, Hill, or Carey.

Also a Wolverines fan, which is why I came away impressed by him so often. I get that he lacks burst through the hole and will not score many long TDs but this guy will constantly extend drives. I see some Eddie Lacy in his style. A little big bigger, probably slightly less explosive but a real chain mover.

But I will punch a baby if the Niners draft him in the 2nd.
This is mostly how I feel, conflicted about it. In all likelihood he will go before our first 2nd round pick and this conversation is moot but if he dropped to one of our spots and we did not have to move up it would be tempting. We still have other holes to fill though...

lol we say that every damn year.... we should only use that argument when he actually slows down instead of just assuming.

RB is just not a value pick anymore. You can find a solid guy in the later rounds on a fairly consistent basis. I am an OSU fan and Hyde had a nice year, but he has some major character issues and doesn't have the speed to be anything more than a one dimensional thumper. I'd rather look for a guy to develop this year and go with Gore/Lattimore/Hunter. If Gore is gone, we can get a better RB than Hyde next year.

Maybe w/a 4th.
I think we can get a very good RB in the 4th based on how the draft seems to be progressing.
I really think we need a stud OLine guy late 2nd - early 3rd instead.
Rams have really upgraded their front 4 with some quality players.
We need to maintain our top flight OLine.

If I'm doing my math right, essentially the Alex Smith trade netted us Tank Carradine and Carlos Hyde. Plus the Titans 3rd rounder this season since we traded down last season and the Broncos 4th next season, we also gave up a 7th this year.
So Alex Smith and a 7th for Tank Carradine, Carlos Hyde, a 3rd and a 4th (next year).

My math may be off but whatever, point being, thank you Alex Smith.
