Which wide receivers have put up the greatest production against the best competition? Out of those guys, which wide receivers have the best combination of speed and quickness.

To beat Seattle's DBs, we need to target a receiver that has been very successful against the top competition and is also very quick and fast. Sammy Watkins is one guy I know that meets these requirements. We probably don't have a shot at trading up for him. Mike Evans, the next wide receiver on a lot of peoples boards, does not meet these requirements.

What other guys have the combination of production vs high level competition and great speed and quickness?

Not a lot of 6' 3"+ burners out there, but speed without skill is useless in the NFL anyway.

Realistically, the best speed/height combination receiver that faced high-level defensive competition in 2013 (that would be reachable for us) is Kelvin Benjamin (6' 5"). But if he kills it at the combine (and I really think he'll run in the mid-to-high 4.4 range as a worst-case scenario), he might not be reachable without trading up quite a bit. He's really raw, but I think his potential (with the right coaching staff) is limitless. If he's coached up properly and paired with the right QB, think Alshon Jeffery with MUCH more open-field elusiveness. I like him as a situational player in his first year. However, if we have to replace Boldin, we should look elsewhere...he's a project.

Mike Evans won't be there without trading up, and although he fits the mold of "big-bodied target," he plays the basketball box-out game more than I like for our offense. Besides his ball skills, he really doesn't really jump off the tape, but you can't argue with results. Personally, I'm not sure another 50/50 ball receiver is what we need right now.

I really like Donte Moncrief. He's reachable; he's played against top competition coming out of Ole Miss, and although he doesn't look like an honest-to-goodness burner on tape (I still like his chances to run high 4.4s-low 4.5s), he's faster than he looks, and plays extremely tough football.

Allen Robinson and Jordan Matthews (both 6' 3") are two other options I like, although I see both as being more of the Crabtree mold than that of say, A.J. Green.

The Combine will, to a great extent, settle some of the questions about who has long speed--and who does not.

Looking down the road, Crabtree--Matthews/Robinson--Patton seems better than good.

One more, maybe a burner would be nice--and we have the picks to get one.

I think that the combine will settle the speed question at least as far as timing goes. The other part is the willingness to go get the ball and catch it with their hands. So to me that means taht they have to have a specific mindset of fighting to get the ball and laying out for the ball. Now I don't know who the most aggressive WRs are but both the WRs from LSU seem to be aggressive and will fight for the ball, literally. So good hands, good speed, football intelligence, and aggressiveness to get the ball all need to be taken into account. So I see us taking two or three WRs to get this position settled for a while. I like Beckham, and Landry and it sounds as if Apprederias are all aggressive WRs. Hopefully this draft we will get the players we need to be competitive and consistent. Hopefully Patton will develop that trust with Kaep.

Watch for Odell Beckham Jr in the Combine you guys are going to fall in love with this kid Fast, big and strong hands, blocks, fights for the ball in the air, and returns kicks. Compared to Randall Cobb

Im going with D.Adams, Fresno St. Great combo of speed, size, strength, seperation, hands and attitude, and he's a west coaster

Later in the draft add D.Archer, Kent St. as a return specialist

The guys who use their size to make catches take longer because they have to get the playbook down pat, work on their technique, route running and adjusting to the bigger guys in the NFL.

Speed guys take time as well but at least when they're still wet behind the ears they can get snaps in the game and pretty much just "go deep and catch the ball" instructions. Whether they actually do or just draw coverage their way allows them to make an impact earlier.

Tell that to Calvin Johnson and Gordon.

I know this board is more active bro but you should just post more on the misc and avoid these blind fools

What are you saying? It's impossible to avoid this guy. we was bad enough the last few years, but lately he is topping out, he is incendiary. I see the handle and I'm getting pissed already, I read what he posts sometimes because it's in the middle of a thread I really like, and I want to hit something really hard. When one talks of POS and grades of that, this is top-o-the-line POS..

Interesting read. It raises some questions about Jordan Matthews, my favorite receiver in this class.

Calvin Johnson...grand total...had like 40 yards receiving against Seattle....he sure showed them.

Landry and Beckham once again look like the top two. Just from that article of course. Especially since we don't run screens in our O we wouldn't be wasting a huge % of a players production like we would if we took Cooks, Matthews, or Robinson.

I reaaally like how in every scenario that you mention what Atl did in trading up for Julio, you conviently leave out they have a $100+ million QB on their roster.lol i think THAT has a whole lot more to do with how strapped ATL is after the trade. And lets not even mention some of their injuries in 2013.

With that contract in mind, who do we have on our roster that is getting paid that much,or at least projects to command a contract like Ryans??I say no one.Paraag n the boys philosophy has always been to extend guys on the cheap WELL ENOUGH before they ever reach a point to command $100M.

With that being said,i do not believe our situation would be as dire as some would like to make it out to be.Our situation is not ATL's,and vice versa.Apples to Oranges imho,IJS (smile)

Yes, because Kaepernick, Aldon Smith, Crabtree and others will continue to play for peanuts due to Baalke's ability to use Jedi mind tricks.

This. Good post although Robinson looks pretty good as well in the light of those numbers, especially his YAC considering how many comeback routes he ran, almost 50% of his total routes. That alone tells me he does a good job being physical and fighting for every yard after the catch. I don't think you can go wrong with Landry or Beckham although I keep leaning more towards Landry, not as good a speed threat but his hands are ridiculous and both guys are well versed in a variety of routes.

But you saw how badly his YAC suffered if they removed screens from the calculations right? That just shocked me.

Landry having just 2 drops is insane.

Both of those articles are great reads. Be interested to see percentage of double teams on passes and drops as well as catches in traffic. Mike Evans and Beckham stick out to me in each of their groups.

And it wasn't for lack of trying, the degree of difficulty on some of the catches he did make was insane. I don't think you can go wrong with a guy like that, excellent route runner, tremendous hands, fearless over the middle, very hard worker and a great attitude as well.
