3. John Jenkins
4. Johnathan Hankins
5. Montori Hughes

For 34 DE's, excluding the same group of top level guys:
1. Jesse Williams
2. Malliciah Goodman (will need to add 10 more pounds)
3. William Campbell
4. Glenn Foster

I don't consider Margus Hunt a 34 DE. I see him as strictly a 43 DE. Too thinly built, even though he put up a lot of reps at 225..

Based on the above, Jessie and Brandon Williams would be good picks; the former at DE and the latter at NT.

We do have enough picks to move up to get Datone Jones.
I am not sure if a trading partner can be found, but rumors indicate that many teams do want to move down.

edit: Add Nick Williams from Samford, and we could build our very own Williams Wall.

Please rate the pass rushers? What do you think of Alec Ogletree? IMO, another pass rusher is as much a Niners priority as Dlineman. With all those selections, dol you think Baalke should trade up from #31 for a pass rusher?

Ogletree is an inside linebacker and not someone that would be on the Niners radar I wouldnt think.
Rob Rang of CBS sports suggested Ogletree will project as an OLB in the NFL.

STRENGTHS: A former safety, Ogletree showed off his terrific range and athleticism, making plays all over the field in 2012 and was often the best player on a defense loaded with NFL talent.Terrific quickness around the edge, capable of making stops in the backfield and is fast in pursuit. Doesn't shy from making the big hit. Arrives with deceiving power and violent intentions. Lengthy frame, athleticism and experience in coverage. Has the long arms scouts like from linebackers.

Excellent special teams player whose ball skills were demonstrated when he leapt high to snatch an onside kick early against LSU in the SEC Championship game.

--Rob Rang

He is not a passrusher. Rang thinks his best position would be weakside 4-3 OLB. BIG difference
I stand corrected. Compared to Sam Weatherspoon, Ogletree is more like to backup Brooks than A. Smith. I wonder whether Baalke then would trade the probable three selections it would take to select Cornelius Tank Carradine. He might become the pass rushing specialist Aldon was as a rookie. This would, IMO, improve the performance of everyone in the defense.

How do you rank the NTs in this years draft from a Niners position? Also how do you rank the DEs for the Niners in this years draft?

Where do you rank Tank Carrdine as a DE? I take it you don't see him as a 3/4 DE. I think he weighs in the 270 and is 6'4.

I'm kind of leaning towards him with our 31 or 34 pick.
Rhodes at 30? D.J. Hayden at 130? Mayock has rhodes in the top 15 and hayden as a first rounder. Huge discrepency

Your thoughts on William Gholston? From what i read he ´s big enough to be a 3/4 end on rushing down and athlétic enough to be DE on a 4 front.
Hé could be draft between late 3rd and 4th and the huddlereport is very high on him

Hi MadDog, I have been working on solutions to paste from Excel into here, and started a thread on it:

http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/parking-lot/172146-experiments-posting-excel-table-into-post/#post7

Currently, the best option appears to be:
Pasting to Word Doc as "Keeping text only" (right click option) and then copying and pasting here. Used Internet Explorer on that test.

It has an extra line between lines, but at least it is easily readable. And removing that extra line isn't too difficult. If others want to try and find the perfect solution, I recommend exploring with the forum link above.

Ok, I think I found the solution.

1. Use Google Chrome
2. Paste Special into Word Pad as unformatted text (paste special is an option under "Paste" in the toolbar)
3. Copy from Word Pad into forum post

Results:

1 Luke Joeckel Texas A&M OT

2 Sharrif Floyd Florida DT

3 Geno Smith West Virginia QB

MadDog, what's your take on Kawann Short? Can he play DE/NT in a 3-4 like RJF? I like that he's a 50 game starter, has long arms, good quickness, stout vs. the run, and he has some ability to shoot the gaps and disrupt the backfield. I've read reports that his motor runs hot and cold, but he produced all 4 years. Do you see him as a possibility at #31 or #34?
I'm glad this is NOT a projected pick, because any analysis that would have the Niners taking offensive players with 4 out of their 5 first picks is fricking crazy.
hey maddog---it appears by niners pursuit of ashomagua that ballke and harbaugh want a cornerback with some size.....

assuming that they wait till rounds 3-5 to get one, who do you like better, tharold simon of lsu or sanders commings of georgia?

Johnathan Franklin, RB, UCLA: I cant find him on your board. Surely he will be drafted. Very productive, and did well at the combine.

???
^Nevermind! I didnt look for him that high, wow. I like him.

At 271, I am a bit skeptical about playing he 34 role. Smith is on the smallish side for 34 ends, and Catapano would need to gain 15 plus pounds just to gt to his weight. Prototypical 43 DE size

He is at 48.

Jones. More of a natural, although small 34 DE. Carradine more of a 43 DE.
