We aren't picking high enough to get this guy if he is all you say he is.

before this season he wasn't even ranked as a draftable prospect, thats the catch. We dont need a superstar, plenty of physical freaks get picked late or not at all. The thing about Davis is that he is exactly what we need, a raw situational prospect that we can coach up.

He's having another big day. After misjudging a deep ball early in the game, he rebounded to to catch a big gain to set up their first TD. He just scored on a blown coverage to bring the game within a score.
He's a nice deep threat. I'd like to see the Hokies target him more often.

he is having a good day, but if that misjudged throw your talking about is that 40 yarder he had to slow down for. That was more of an under thrown pass by Thomas then it was Davis, and Davis leaping catch for it was a great adjustment on his part going up to get it at its highest point

not surprising. Its his weak link, entire reason why is so under the radar. He reportedly dislocated it or sprained it about a month ago. He's killing it too

might be a medical flag

Early in the game he slowed up on a deep pass for no reason and the ball went long. It looked like he just lost sight of the ball. On the under throw, he did a great job out jumping the CB for the ball. IMO, his best play of the game. The TDs were easy ones.
Hopefully his shoulder isn't too bad.
His size/speed alone is enough to get him in the first round. I could see him following the Demarius Thomas route and getting snagged by a team in the early 20s. If he has a solid offseason, he'll go earlier. I don't expect him to do much in the offseason. The mystery about him helps his stock.

probably will. still the fact that he is so under the radar it would be worth while investing even an early day 3 pick in him if he has production to merit it. it'll all shake out by spring time but this is terrible news. Keep me posted if they say anything official during the game, I am about to watch my Utes freshman QB make his 1st start.

I am a huge tech fan. I agree he might be a great draft pick. However, speaking completely objectively there isn't anything on this film, other than size and speed, that make me say "this is the guy." I'll be keeping an eye on it. It's tough to tell with hokies. They have great athletes who are rarely well coached in the passing game. Many of them turn into good pros. Many of them do not.

any updated outlooks on Davis leading up to the combine? most projections i've seen on him so far have him pegged around 4th or 5th round (might climb after combine though). Seems like a decent value at that point to gamble on his size/speed combo later in the draft so they can focus on the DL and other areas early

This....people rave about his size and speed......there's a crapload more to playing WR in the NFL than just that.

Agreed, he's like a poor man's Patterson. Physical size and speed, but even more raw. Initially I really liked his measureables, but assessments for his skills have been very questionable. I wondered about using him in a Walker type roll because of his size. He might be an interesting late round project depending on how far he fell.

Measurables mean diddly squat. Can he catch over 80 passes or over 10 td a season ?

There are a lot of productive receivers in the NFL that don't meet that criteria. But I agree with you.
