Thanks, krizay, I forgot to ask that about Johnson since I know salary is the main factor in deciding comp picks. but was going on memory about playing time.

Costanzo, Morgan and Snyder for us as losses.

Johnson, Manningham are the only 2 against us. Guys like Moss(Out of football in 2011), Cox(same as Moss), Jacobs(Cut), Cartwright(Vet min deal) don't count against us.

Also Reggie Smith and Chilo Rachal(Though haven't seen contract terms) probably don't count to help us due to one year minimum deals.

So I say a 5th is reasonable, with Johnson crossing out Costanzo and Manningham crossing out Morgan, and leaving Snyder to net us a pick.
AB, correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't playing time count as well as salary so that if Smith and Rachal see some starting playing time that would help us get more in the way of comp picks? Wishful thinking on my part.

correct. Has to do with Salary and Playing Time, so if Costanzo plays more than Johnson, then we could get an extra 7th for that. Snyder got a 17.5M over 5 yr deal, so I expect a 5th rd pick for him, maybe higher to a 4th if he performs at a high level.

I just hope we lose a lot of games so our draft position is good. I hate watching the draft and waiting the entire round to make a pick.

Yeah, plus when we draft earlier, it gives the draft "experts" less chance to complain that we didn't trade up.

Then they will complain we didn't trade down.

lol
Here is something I wrote up just now.

Heading into the draft these were locks IMO.

QB Alex Smith (2014)
QB Colin Kaepernick (2014)
RB Frank Gore (2014)
RB Kendall Hunter (2014)
FB Bruce Miller (2014)
RB/FB Rock Cartwright (2012)
WR Michael Crabtree (2014)
WR Ted Ginn Jr. (2012)
WR Mario Manningham (2013)
TE Vernon Davis (2015)
TE Delanie Walker (2012)
C Jonathan Goodwin (2013)
OG Mike Iupati (2014)
OG Daniel Kilgore (2014)
OG Mike Person (2014)
OT Joe Staley (2017)
OT Anthony Davis (2014)
OT Alex Boone (2015)
DE Justin Smith (2013)
DE Ray McDonald (2015)
NT Isaac Sopoaga (2012)
NT Ricky Jean Francois (2012)
OLB Aldon Smith (2014)
OLB Ahmad Brooks (2017)
ILB Patrick Willis (2016)
ILB NaVorro Bowman (2013)
ILB Larry Grant (2012)
ILB Tavares Gooden (2012)
CB Carlos Rogers (2015)
CB Tarell Brown (2013)
CB Chris Culliver (2014)
S Dashon Goldson (FRAN)
S Donte Whitner (2013)
S C.J. Spillman (2014)
S Colin Jones (2014)
PK David Akers (2013)
P Andy Lee (2012)
LS Brian Jennings (2014)

That was 38 spots, then these guys who felt wouldn't need a upgrade but just competition.

RB Brandon Jacobs (2012)
WR Randy Moss (2012)
TE Nate Byham (2013)
DE Demarcus Dobbs (2013)
DE Will Tukuafu (2013)
NT Ian Williams (2013)
OLB Parys Haralson (2013)
CB Perrish Cox (2013)
CB Tramaine Brock (2012)

Those were an additional 9 spots filled, bringing us to a total of 47 spots filled, leaving 6 spot opended.

Then fast forward to draft day, like said we wouldn't draft Fleener, didn't have a need their. Only big need was maybe a RG, but it was clear the team feels highly in Kilgore to only add a 4th rd pick to compete with him.

Now looking at the roster, add in the following as on the roster IMO.

WR A.J. Jenkins (Will be signed through 2015)
RB LaMichael James (2015)
OG Joe Looney (2015)
OLB Darius Fleming (2015)
FS Trenton Robinson (2015)

That there is 5 of the 6 spots available. The last to me is down to whether we do keep a 9th OL in Slowey, who could be a PS possibility, or we have Cam Johnson on the roster.

Haralson makes the team as long as the team is able to reduce his salary, if not he will need to prove he is worth keeping.

Competition at the following positions will happen IMO for roster spots.

4th and 5th CB spot-

Brock, Cox, Holcomb, Nelms(Might be at S maybe), Bademosi(If he is signed) and Mosley(Kentucky UDFA)

DL-

Dobbs, I.Williams, Masifilio, Jerod-Eddie, Butrym -Note I feel Tukuafu is most likely locked in after playing so good before injured in 2011.

9th OL spot if a 9th is kept-

Slowey, Netter(UDFA), Hall(Stanford OT from 2011), Gonzales(UDFA from Wash State) - If only 8 then I guess Person would competing for a spot, even though we should keep 9 for safety purposes and Person brings value verstale wise.

RB-

Jacobs and Dixon, darkhorse would be Jewell Hampton.

What I'm trying to get at is we had only maybe 6 open spots heading to draft day, if we didn't feel we needed upgrades at positions mentioned before.

Now what was good about this draft was those extra 3 picks in 2013, we have several key FAs to be,

RB Rock Cartwright - Most likely to be kept, as he a ST ace and brings vet presence.

WR Randy Moss - Likely done, if brought back would be small 1 yr deal like this year

WR Ted Ginn Jr. - Unsure of new kickoff rule changes if any, thus might make him expendable past 2012, plus hopefully we can develop someone as a Returner

TE Delanie Walker - Maybe sees offers, but I feel he returns, should be an easy re-sign

NT Isaac Sopoaga - Will be interesting on how much they value Isaac, which will determine if we will look into 2013 draft for a replacement

NT Rick Jean Francois - Even though an easy sign, team may feel they need and could get a cheaper upgrade, I would keep, wouldn't cost much more than 1M a yr

ILB Larry Grant - Could return, but may get offers elsewhere.

ILB Tavares Gooden - Easy 1yr re-sign for vet minimum

CB Tramaine Brock - RFA to be, likely not tendered, we would draft a better CB in 2013 who can down the road be a starter or 3rd CB when Rogers is done

FS Dashon Goldson - Needs extension, hoping now/soon

P Andy Lee - A must sign, need him, gives great field position on nearly every punt

2013 seems like these are priorities to get.

NT if Sopoaga isnt retained

Backup at NT/DE if RJF isnt back

CB to replace Brock

maybe a WR if Moss doesn't work out

extra ILB for depth

and pretty much it. We have good players to work with for the future, so I feel solid for 2013 and beyond. Keep developing our young players, and supplement thru FA, and add more thru Draft.

Thanks also AB, I'll pull for Snydner to play well, while the rest of the Cards line tanks and for Rachal to start for the Bears.

I agree. I'm pretty sure they will need an every-down replacement for Gore after this year and I can them going after a RB.

theres about 6 guys we can scout out as every down backs if some come out a year early. The obvious ones would be Ball and Latimorre. We need someone who's at least 212. Gore is somewhere between 212 and 216. This is my first time actually checking out the prospects and not just looking at names. There's some kid named Mike James who plays at Miami. ANybody catch any games to give some info on him?
