evrythings good but the fleener pick. we need a starter for first pick. and fleener will not see the field more than 10% of the snaps so waste of pick. i like the idea of 3 te sets. but hell be 3rd option no matter what

false. how many times do we see vernon and walker on the field the same time?? harbaugh and roman love using 2 te sets and with fleener it would be a match up nightmare for opposing defenses and linebackers. i like walker and all but hes nowhere near the te fleener is and if baalke and harbaugh agree theres no wr worth taking or the trade down option is not available i'll be happy with fleener. fleener will give us size and a target for those damn 3rd downs we have trouble with
I really like your analysis and Mock......I'm down with your picks too.

However......

First of all we aren't getting rid of Ahmad Brooks, but if we do we will pick an OLB in the draft early. I liked Larry Grant but he's no true outside backer. We would lose a lot here.

I hate to say it but I'm starting to think we will lose Carlos Rogers unless he signs for undermarket value to play with the Niners. It's possible because Rogers really liked playing here and they have great chemistry.

The 49ers are going to have to get creative to keep all of their guys.

I think Synder stays with the Niners because he's so versatile and can play of the positons on the line. But do you draft a guard high to force Synder off the team? Kilgore too is a player they like but is he going to beat out Synder.

Shauntae Spencer and Chilo are gone for sure.

We are going to lose one big name player for sure just don't know which one.

why do we lowball rodgers? hes always been this good, he just learned how to catch with the 9ners. Hes been the best corner on the team since he got to the nfl. he was way better than hall. hall just had the picks. but los raely got burned and deflected alot of passes evry year

how bout all picks traded to indi!
Thanks for the input guys. I'm glad I put this post up because it helped put a couple things into perspective. After reading your posts here are my thoughts.

1. Ahmad Brooks is more of a priority than Carlos Rodgers. Brooks is a complete OLB and those are hard to find. Plus we have no one behind him on the depth chart. Rodgers had a great year and I would like to have him back but we have depth at the CB position and there are some solid FA's out there if he decides to be too pricey.

2. IF Brooks is retained then Curry in the 2nd would be a waste. If that scenario plays out I say we pick up an OLB project round 5+.

3. I agree with the Brian Quick posts. The guy looks like a stud!

4. 2nd round tender on Larry Grant is a great idea. Honestly didn't even think of that.

5. It's hard to predict what will happen to Snyder. I would love to have him back but also think it would be a mistake to get into a bidding war for him. Keep in mind the Giants broke the bank on Baas last year so these things do happen.

6. My next mock will include rounds 5-7. I will be targeting projects at positions of need Safety, OLB, RB, Return Specialist.

7. Anthoney Costanzo plays for the Colts.

I've had my fair share of arguments with Phoenix on using our first pick on Fleener, but if our first four picks fell like this, I'd be jumping 4 joy for sure. Getting Hill AND Fleener in our offense would be HUGE.
100% on board with Fleener.
He would see the field on much more than 10% of plays like a previous poster indicated... in fact he probably would move to the #2 spot half the time and they would use DW as a wild card lining up at WR and in the backfield more often. Our heavy sets would have VD, DW, Fleener, Miller and Byham... that is a power offense. Hell they could bring in Boone and Soap and shift and line VD and DW out as WR's, just more mismatches.

Personally I dont like WR's from Georgia Tech, aside from Megatron it is a boom or bust factory at that position. The offense banks on long deep strikes off of the triple option... it is extremely hard to judge talent from an offense like that since WR's tend to run free due to CBs misdiagnosing the play. When CJ left their he had loads of highlight reels of him going over defenders and making outstanding individual plays... Hill doesnt show the same types of consistent wins in individual matchups. Wouldnt mind hearing his name called in the 3rd or after but anything before that would be a let down till he makes some plays in preseason

This. I agree that Fleener and Hill would make this offense so much more explosive and diverse which is exactly Harbaugh and Roman want for the 49ers offense.

I like it, wish we can keep Ginn and Brooks. Love the picks, Fleener is a good TE, Curry is one of my favs, though he may not make it all the way to end of round 2, if he doesnt look at Bruce Irvin and Andre Branch. Hill i would love, hope he falls, and Nix is a good Guard.

Would rather let Haralson go and use his money to help retain Brooks
They need both of them. They are the only 2 full time OLB'ers on the whole roster.

I love the idea of another stud TE, but I think the team is too thin at other positions to draft a TE with a round 1 pick. If the Niners get a TE I would see them letting Delanie Walker go, he counts 1.9 million against the cap, you cannot have so much money invested in the TE position. Bynham would be #3 TE.

delante is better than byham

he can play WR great blocker and a good TE
One of the better mocks I have seen lately mavfd9er.

This one is even better (slightly more realistic?) by nw9erfan above...

Round 1 (pick 30) TE Coby Fleener Stanford
Round 2 (pick 62) WR Stephen Hill G Tech
Round 3 (pick 93) OLB Cam Johnson Virginia
Round 4 (pick 125) OG Lucas Nix Pitt

I only wrote "more realistic" because by the time the Niners pick in the second and third rounds, both Curry and Hill respectively, are probably gone....so....keeping in mind the need for a WR and an OLB, I moved Hill up to the second pick and found a solid OLB prospect in C. Johnson, who has a good chance of being there at the end of the third.

All of that being said, I still prefer Brian Quick to Hill...

Cheers!
