Hi Maddog,
I’m a newbie here. I’m sorry for my shaky English but I’m Italian.
I often read your posts and I found them very interesting and qualified
I have some questions for you.
I read that you are a fan of Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kapernick. Me too but I have some concerns about them.
I don’t see them as WCO QB. I don’t see them accurate enough to play in that system.
Besides I’m not sold about their ability to do the quick read that WCO needs.
I think that they would be a perfect fit in the Ken Whisehunt system which is easier than Harbugh offense.
Moreover in the Cardinals system you need a big strong armed guy but accuracy is less crucial than the one you need in a WCO.
What do you think about that? Do you see Gabbert and Kapernick as good fit in our system?
Thanks

This Big Board will expand to a full draft board down the road with my projection of where players will be selected. This is NOT a draft ranking, but the general area where I see players selected. The NFL combine will surely alter the idea of where individuals will be chosen. This board projects beyond the combine (Kaepernick will run extremely well and should display good arm strength, hence the movement on my board, in advance, to the middle second round). Derrick Locke should roast the track, so I see him as a third rounder. I project Torrey Smith a round higher than others, but once again based on the prediction that his 40 time will be eye-popping. And, I expect JJ Watt will really impress in drills, showing outstanding mobility for a big man, elevating his stock to a high level. I could go on for virtually every player, but will let the board discuss their thoughts.
If you believe there is a player I completely missed the boat on, either through omission or placement (too high or low), please feel free to comment.
Have fun! Cheers!
One final note: I think the Niners will eventually draft one of these five players with their #7 pick, in this order: Von Miller (the team appears to be smitten with him), Blaine Gabbert, Prince Amukamara, Robert Quinn, and Cameron Jordan.
If I was a betting man, the team will select Miller in the first, the highest CB on their board in the second (Curtis Brown, Aaron Williams, etc.), and trade up (using their third and one of their fourth rounders) into the late second round to pick up a QB (Dalton, Ponder, etc.).

One last final note: After watching and grading the Senior Bowl game, I thought the best game performances go to: Von Miller, Ryan Kerrigan, Leonard Hankerson, Sam Acho, Kendric Burney, Curtis Brown. I primarily focused on the OL, and graded these players as best: John Moffitt (brilliantly consistent); James Carpenter, Derek Sherrod, Jake Kirkpatrick, Rodney Hudson. Shockingly, a couple of the players who had solid practices really struggled in this game (the practices mean a LOT more...so take it with a grain of salt): Nate Solder (looked sluggish) and Danny Watkins (graded as a street free agent. He had a terrific first series, and then was absolutely horrible the rest of the game...it was UGLY..missed blocks, falling on the ground, holding call, YIKES!!!).
THoughts on Bilal Powell (RB) from Louisville - I thought he was clearly the most impressive RB in mobile and could see him coming off the board in the 3rd or 4th. Would love to grab him to replace Westbrook
He had a pretty good week but is not considered a top level back. Probably will be in that 4th round range, as you stated. I see him as mostly a role RB in the NFL.
The guy who looked the best of the RB group was Kendall Hunter. While he did not get many touches in the game, he looked terrific in the practices in running the ball, catching out of the backfield, and picking up blitzes, which REALLY improved his grade. I have him as the top RB in this draft, and will probably be a mid-second rounder. The combine will be huge for him.

Welcome to the board, and glad to have someone from the Motherland on the Webzone.
I project the Cards taking Gabbert at five, but he may be there at 7. So many things to be played out the next couple of months. Honestly, I'm not sure any of the draftable QB's are ready to play the WCO right away. Learning the system from an NFL coaching staff is a big challenge for any young kid. Both QB's, Gabbert and Kaepernick will need time. Neither is prepared to step in and start right away. Each needs to get used to playing under the center, making those quick reads, etc.
I will say that since both QB's threw the ball A LOT in college, they are used to multiple receiver, complex (for the college level) offensive systems, and both have a framework for being able to play in the WCO. Kaepernick needs to shorten his elongated motion, but showed strong accuracy during the Senior Bowl week. Gabbert is also a reliable QB in accuracy, but will need to show teams with a WCO that he is highly accurate.
The bottom line is that there are no Drew Brees' or Aaron Rodgers' in this draft that can consistently throw in ultra tight spaces. But, there is talent for sure.

Thanks for your big board and taking the time to answer most of our questions.
I would like to commend you on ignoring some of the negative replys to your answers.
Do you still think the Niners may take Dalton in the 2nd or are they going to wait till the 3rd or 4th round?

Thanks for your kind thoughts. The draft is witchcraft, and the moment you think you understand it, is the moment you realize you have no idea. That being said, I have been pretty good over the years in spotting trends, and use that as my basis for where I believe prospects will be selected.
Don't think Dalton will be there for the 76th pick. He was the most vocal leader at the Senior Bowl, has a pretty strong, accurate arm, and is a mature winner. In a draft with a lot of QB's with high bust potential, he is one of the safer QB prospects. Probably a mid-late second rounder.
As for ignoring the negative replies, I guess I can't expect a Christmas card from everyone. Cheers.

Nice! Like MD said, good to see someone from the Motherland here!
More impressive is you know your college football! Question: How big is American Football over there? NFL? College?
Viva Italia! Hate about their WC showing though

In Italy American Football is less known even if the fans of this marvellous sport are increasing but right now NBA is more popular.
In Italy there is a great coverage of American sports (NFL ,MLB, NHL, NBA, College football and basket) but you have to have a pay tv like me .
Also internet it's big resource. Do you know game pass?
It's a subscription which let us see the NFL season with more or less 200 dollars.
I have known webzone since several years, I often read what you write but I have never attended because writing in a comprehensible english is not an easy task for me.
I write in a Italian American football forum. Among Italian Niners fans webzone is well known and especially Maddog.
We often comment on his posts especially when he talks about draft and his Big 100 board.
Besides I know tha maddog is from Ohio and he is an history teacher if i am not wrong. it seems to me to have read that on webzone .
Bye

I'm seeing quite a few mocks with Bowers going to a 3-4 team as an OLB - Couple of games I've seen - to me he doesn't look like a guy who can play OLB. Like I said, I haven't seen a lot of him and was wondering what's your take on him playing in a 3-4 Defense?

Yes, I like Hunter better than Ingram, who I also think will be a solid starter in the NFL. Murray is another solid back.

I've got a feeling we will not know whether Bowers can play the 3-4 OLB role until his campus workout. I'd be shocked if he worked out at the combine. However, he will weigh-in at the combine and that will be huge.
Bowers is a pretty athletic guy, so I wouldn't put it past him. If he has dropped some weight and is in the 265-275 range, I think it is possible. If he is at 280 pounds or more, I tend to doubt it.

Either way he's gone by our 7 slot.

Hi Maddog,
I’m a newbie here.
Thanks
Bye
Youre doing a great job with English. Dont sell yourself short! You should post more often...dont feel embarrassed, its the internet, I think its AWESOME that you guys know us here.
Yes MD is our resident draft guru, here for about 5 years, ever since Anti G (the previous MD went to work for the NFL) left. And MD is amazing at what he does...
So do me a favor here...bring this link to your fellow 9erItalian friends there and tell me what you think of our all time soccer draft we had last year....I hope you guys enjoy this one...

You are way too kind. On The Clock is really outstanding in following college players and tracking their draft status. I value his thoughts as much as any "expert" that gets paid for a living.
