Yes for sure.
Troy Smith is 5'10". And he played 2 home games. London was home by the more fans. Also against horrific teams. You guys are getting carried away on his upside potential. He won't lead us anywhere.

Surprised to see so much support for Alex to return as a back-up. I agree that Alex is the perfect candidate to be this team's #2, but if he has any self respect left, he'll get far away from here. If I were him I'd take a page from LeBron's book and "take my talents to south beach"...more than anything, just because Miami's sweet and his smokin' hot woman would look sweet in Miami.
As a karate expert, I think Pennington's done playing football and they should be in the market for a mobile back up...who knows, maybe he'll surprise there. They definitely aren't shy about trying "new" things on offense. Finding a spread to run, obviously would be ideal for him, but all of the good one's he doesn't have a hope in hell of winning a starters spot. Time to learn how to play under center like a big boy, or be doomed to float around the league as a "what not to do with a 1st rounder" cautionary tale.
But it's not all what he wants to do. He's married to a local girl and more often than not, it matters more what the woman wants to do over what you want...at least that's the way it works in my world so I've been told If there's 2 things that don't give a flying f**k about what you want to do, or your self respect for that matter; they would be marriage and playing pro football.
Anyhoo, I completely digress as usual. If we get in the playoffs, that means the coaching staff is staying much the same and therefore, I'd want my QB situation to follow suit (minus Carr) There's way more pressing needs on defense to address in the draft and via free agency. Knowing these cheap b*****ds we have running our club, both avenues for improvement are going to be extremely limited anyway, so we'd be best served not to lose any ground we've already advanced as far as our passing game goes.....again, IF we make the playoffs. This scenario changes completely if things go sideways on us from here on out.

If Troy continues to tear it up then I say save the pick for a position that is needed....like say a DB. That DB from Nebraska Prince Aoeirjlierjfaldkjfaldkjfalkdf would be a nice draft pick. I'm not to big on the Peterson guy from LSU.

If troy keeps lighting it up, i say we draft db's and maybe a mid round tackle to replace staley, or rachal.

We need to draft a QB, but first we need to find out who's coaching. The 49ers need to go back to what made us the greatest franchise ever THE WEST COAST OFFENSE!!
IMO I would like to see Morningweig as HC and maybe we could get Kolb from Philly since Vick will be getting paid by seasons end. I think Morningweig is a great fit and is ready to be a HC. He should have never got the Lions job they wanted Mooch and settled for him. Also Matt Millen was calling the shots. He has worked under Mooch and Reid.

If Troy works out, then draft an oline cat, with the next pick get a qb.
I don't know if we'll see any football next year though.

the longing for the wco is so sad. Move on. Ill take a vertical passing game in a second if it leads to wins. News alert, Joe Montana isnt QB anymore and Jerry Rice is long since retired. That team is dead, that west coast offense is dead. Move on.

You obviously don't watch Green Bay or Philly. Shanahan ran a very good version of it in Denver and it teaching it to the Redskins.
As you said, anything that works is good but the WCO is far from dead. It is just that a number of coaches have added a lot to it since Bill.

49ers need to fix the secondary, draft a young replacement for Justin smith, and finish fixing the Oline.
if we improve the secondary, we can stop those game ending drives.
If we finish fixing the Oline, no more qbs will have broken shoulders on our watch.

I mean its dead here. Using the same sceme we had success with 25 years ago isnt going to magically result in the same as it did then.

Like I've been saying, with the depth of QBs in this draft, I'd like to still pick up a QB in 2nd, 3rd or 4th round. There are some great quality QBs in those rounds. And he's a bust, it's not like we spent a first round draft pick to get him when there are greater needs on the team *cough* cornerback or defensive end *cough*
