honestly i was pretty bummed about it too, but god knows who they would have drafted. i only base this on draft picks from 5-6, wasnt really feeling them,
But i will say this, i think our trade for the 4th next year, made up for it. that was a great trade. i just wished they would have traded next years 4th and this years 6th for a 4th rounder this year

That would be my only gripe but he did give us one for next year.

yeah, i'd give him a mulligan for that reason. They obviously wanted to make absolutely sure that they got their guy. I don't fault them, and I can't argue with the result, really. I loved the aggressiveness and the coherent vision that was displayed in how this draft was run. Not many teams communicate as clear a philosophy as we did this weekend.

I would have been angry had we not traded up and had lost hiim, as seems quite probable, to Dallas of all people.
Priorities, people. Which was more important? Finally filling that gap or a 4th round pick?
What would the zone be saying today had Dallas pipped us for Davis?

I don't think it was a mistake, I'm just glad we got the kid now. I would have been pissed if Dallas had traded up and nabbed him from us.

i would rather go up and get our guy then have some1 snag him and we get stuck with some1 else. it was only a 4th rounder, which ya we might of gotten a steal but the odds are the 4th rounder wouldnt of done anything, i think it was a good move to grab him

Yeah, Denver and Jaqs were shopping the picks and I'm sure if Dallas or Greenbay jumped ahead of us, they would have been kicking themselves for not moving up. Plus, we got the 4th back for next year so we just have to wait another year to make the pick. Patience, nothing lost.

It was an aggressive move that may or may not prove to be a smart decision. If you saw the interview with Sing right after they made the pick, he said they moved up just to take the anxiety out of the situation. The Niners just didn't want to take a chance that someone else would leapfrog them at #13 to take Davis.
49erJoe hit the nail on the head:
Baalke gets an extra 4th and 7th next year.

You shouldn't say it's a mistake...AD was Singletary's guy, and he wasn't about to lose out on his OT for the 2nd year in a row. Look at what happened after we traded up...a slew of other trades came...that's what he and Baalke were afraid of, that a team below them would jump up and grab him.

even if we got a 7th by a trade, who cares??? I am excited about the additional 4th-rounder...and i hope that the niners will keep both 4th-rounders as long as they can...dont wanna sit and watch how some teams steal good guys in the 4th while we sit and watch this happen and cant take part in this fun.

Giving away our 4th rounder to move up two spots for Davis really hurt. By all accounts I read and watched, there was no one that thought this was necessary. Sing said they were worried about Dallas trading in front of us to get Davis, but it was pretty evident that Dallas was in love with Dez Bryant, and that's the only player they would have traded up for if they felt it was necessary. The other two trade-up teams mentioned were Green Bay and San Diego, but Green Bay was rumored to want to trade in front of us to get Bulaga, who instead fell to them anyway without having to give up a pick. And it was also well documented that San Diego wanted RB Ryan Matthews, so I don't understand why we got so trigger happy to have to move up two spots? Davis is thought of as a "boom or bust" tackle, so there were some teams were intentionally staying away from him. There were a lot of pretty decent CB's still left in the middle of the 4th round. If we pick up someone like Perrish Cox with that pick, this would have been a perfect draft in my book. But I give a lot of props to Baalke for getting the players that he did, and adding guys like Ginn, Vann and Leblount. I think our return game should be much improved, and hopefully that improved field position willl turn into points and wins.
I agree but he wouldn't have moved up unless he had info that told him he needed to. All I care about is we got the guys we wanted in rounds 1-3. Yes i would have liked to have had a 4th rounder to possibly get a CB or NT but oh well.
