Either way, Iupati starts day 1 at LG and will be there for the next 10 years.
Lets stop developing players!!! Some smart brain decided to take 2 OL, let them start, if not, why did they get 2????
We're developing Nate, Alex Smith for the past 100 yrs, and now A.Davis???? C'mmon....

3 observations:
1. Davis starts at RT from the beginning of TC. The 49ers did not move up just to have a guy who could COMPETE with Adam Snyder at RT. They moved up to have a guy who would START at RT.
2. Iupati has some pass blocking refinements to make, but Baas was not a very polished pass blocker last year either. Iupati starts at LG because he has the quickness and agility that Baas does not have and will never have.
3. Alex Smith is the quarterback that Mike Singletary and Trent Baalke BELIEVE will get them into the playoffs!!! This is a SERIOUS compliment to Alex Smith.
OVERALL: The 49ers believe that the OL was the last remaining piece of a playoff caliber offense, and they have solved that problem in a decisive fashion. And they did it with by getting a combination of value and need.
GRADE: A+

Iupati is straight up a monster. We needed him.
Davis will be a factor this year, I think he starts at RT. Iupati will compete with Baas for the starting LG position.
no way we stick a 20 year old Tackle on a playoff contender in there to get eaten alive....he starts only if there is an injury.
I'll bet he's just as capable physically to start at RT as Snyder has been. He may be 20 but he's built like a 5 year vet.
He sure is.....but he will be a rookie. He isnt gonna be prepared against superior athletes of the NFL....you know what that leads too? flags, flags, flags. We cant afford that now. He has to be coached up. He is raw. He has the highest ceiling of anyone in the draft yes. But he needs to learn. If we werent a playoff contender, I would absolutely stick him in. But we dont need the false starts, and holding calls.

Davis needs coaching, just like any rookie coming into the league. However, I think you are forgetting how desparately Adam Snyder struggled in numerous games last year. Frankly, it won't take much of an effort from Davis to unseat Snyder.

Huh? I'm saying in a perfect world Davis would start at RT right off and eventually transition (by DEVELOPING) to LT. If he doesn't and Staley keeps doing what he's doing then oh well, we have a solid RT in Davis.
Davis will start right away (assuming he beats out Snyder...lol). But he's FAR from a finished product. He will need to develop, albeit on the job, into the player he can be.

Uh, Minnesota started a rookie RT last year and they did pretty well.
I'd take a parking cone over Adam Snyder.

Re: Anthony Davis per CBS Sportsline:
“This was Davis' second weight-related issue in three years …. he reported to school at 363 pounds. "That was me being a fat kid," he said. . . .. Davis again ran afoul of the coaching staff as a junior, as he was benched before injuries on the line forced the coach to re-insert him back into the lineup. He was not the team leader in blocking consistency grades (82.58 percent), knockdowns (89) or touchdown-resulting blocks, yet his reputation as an athlete saw him get second-team All-American honors. Even the league coaches ONLY named him to the All-Big East SECOND team. . . . . Allowed 6.5 quarterback sacks and eight pressures on 699 pass plays. . . . 10 yd dash 1.81 . . . 20 yard 3.01 . . . 40 yd dash 5.36 . . . cone 8.17 . . . . bench 21 . . . . . .
These numbers don’t scream ‘athleticism’. Plus he doesn’t look great in the very limited video on that site. I don’t see the great athleticism that was worth trading up to #11 for a guy purportedly with an attitude problem. He didn't even make fist team Big East. I presume that the guy must have great feet, but I would have traded down. Plus they gave up a 4th when it's very likely he would have been there at #13.

Do you guys remember all of those failed 3rd-and-1's? Those are converted 1st downs now when we run behind Iupati!!!
The offense will hold the ball longer, which will make our defense play less minutes, which will make them fresher and sharper, and will therefore make them a top 10 defense.
The best defense is a good offense.

I think we start Simms and Staley at the beginning of the season at tackle. Much as I love these picks they need some development time.

Yeah the revolving door that is Adam Snyder. I don't think he will pose too tough of an obsticle. I agree with the posts that say he will develope on the job. We drafted him at 11 to start early in his career, if not week one then by the end of the first quarter of the season I'd say. I have confidence in coach Sing, as well as the support system of Solari and Brown. I think professional coaching will do wonders for him even in the short term. It wouldn't supprise me if he had solid rookie year and became a good to great player in the years to follow.

I love the picks but what about our original problem, the right side of our line? Let's say these guys are legit. That still doesn't make Iupati better than 2006 Larry Allen and it doesn't make Davis better than 2006 Mr. Glass. We all know Staley didn't play too well as RT but that was his rookie year and we have NO idea how Davis would fare at RT.
