We all when we selected Coffee because he was the same type of runner as Gore. The majority here want to draft Spiller to split time with Gore. While Coffee is no where near Gore in terms of proven ability. It still could be the same 1-2 punch the MASS wants with the drafting of Spiller. And again if we get a 2nd and 3rd for him
Way to think out side the box OP! If we could get the compensation you suggest. We have to at least consider the opportunity. Hell we could even sign a Thomas Jones or an LJ to play 2nd fiddle to Spiller. All the while picking up 2 high draft picks.
Seriously, a majority of the webzone would make terrible investors/business owners. Frank Gore has MAYBE 2 years left as an elite back. Look at LT, look at Westbrook, do you want that to happen two years down the road and not receive ANY compensation. Imagine if LT or Westbrook were traded last year. They would've easily commanded a 1st round pick. Runningbacks hit a wall and they hit a wall fast. Considering that Frank Gore is already beat up, playing on 2 surgically repaired knees, injury prone, and hasn't had a single healthy season, having an LT-length career is a best case scenario for him. Besides, it would be honorable as an organization to give him a chance to win a Super Bowl in the remaining 2 years of his legit career (which players around the league respect when looking to sign with a team) . All it takes is forward thinking people. Look at the Patriots, they do this every year.... Richard Seymour, Deion Branch, and any 1st rounder they have. If we really wanted to go with a win now approach we should have been more active in free agency. We have 2 firsts and there are proven YOUNG pro bowl players that can be acquired.

Trade away our only consistent player on offense over the last 4 years? Just because the idea is outside the box doesn't make it a good one.
Just because we trade away Frank also don't make it a bad one.
I just don't see the point. Seems like an unnecessary risk to me.
It's not as big of risk as it use to be because Gore is no longer the only offense we have like years past. He only had more than 16 carries 4 times since Smith took over and only 5 times all year. Which is the major reason I think drafting Spiller wishing for a 1-2 punch is a waste. But that's a different argument.

Good point about the win now approach. You're right by the time we are ready to compete for a Super Bowl. Gore will be on the back 9!

I see both your guys point. But I'm not trading away our only proven offensive player.

But let's say we get a 2nd and 3rd and invested them into our lines and back field next season, we become young and a strong contender for years to come. Spiller/Coffee + picks doesn't seem like such a bad idea to me. But if we just draft spiller without trading Gore, what do we do with Coffee because he has no value.
If we get a first, then we have 2 firsts again in 2011
Gore for a #1 will never happen. I think if it was even discussed it would be in the range of the package Baltimore gave up for Boldin . . . if that.
Anyway if I was Norv Turner I'd take my chances with A.J. Smith finding a couple of gems in the draft rather than trade for an RB with five years of NFL wear and tear.

Or we could just skip drafting Spiller and trading Gore and just keep Gore and fix our offensive line so he can preform even better than he already is If it isn't broke don't fix it. Sure, Gore gets hurt, but no one wants to give Coffee a shot. He underperformed in what..3 games near the beginning of the season when Gore was out? Oh well. Just give him another shot and skip this whole scenario.

Honestly wtf is wrong with some of you?
Frank Gore got over 1000 yards behind the POS line we had last year. You want to take a small back like Spiller who hasn't proven squat in the NFL and put him in as a starter over a proven top 5 back like Frank Gore?
The only thing Spiller has on Frank Gore is speed. THAT IS IT! Frank Gore is a stud who has proven himself in the NFL and you want to trade him for a low 20s pick?
Honestly I wish the mods here would ban people for saying stupid crap like this.
