Worst Draft Pick Ever

Please (vets) tell me you remember this draft day debacle: Israel Ifeanyi

The 49ers draft of 1996 was one of anticipation. Having traded their No. 1 pick the previous year for the right to draft wide receiver J.J. Stokes at the No. 10 spot (sound familiar?), the 49ers didn’t have a pick until halfway through the second round.

The 49ers were in desperate need of pass-rush help after trading Charles Haley to the Dallas Cowboys in 1992 and never adequately replacing him.

Who would be the next pass rush specialist in San Francisco?

The name was in: Israel Ifeanyi. My reaction: “Who the hell is Israel Ifeanyi?” Over the Likes of:
-Lance Johnstone (wound up being a soild DE in the league)
-Brian Dawkins (wow)
-Tedy Bruschi, ILB
- Donnie Edwards, ILB
-Jon Runyan, T
-Zach Thomas, MLB
-La'Roi Glover, DT

we did nab T.O. this yr. that's about it.

During the press conference, George Seifert seemed genuinely excited to have landed the defensive end from USC. I remember Seifert saying that Ifeanyi had the quickest hands he had ever seen.

He played in only three games in 1996 and was credited with zero tackles and zero sacks. That was it. He got injured & we cut him the next yr. Fantastic.
HAHA I remember that dude. Yeah I thought the same thing when his name was called out.

Worst draft pick ever? Not going there because who really knows. But i'm sure i'm not alone in saying the worst pick ever (in terms of present time drafting) had to be Frank Gore. We went with a RB with 2 knee Surgeries in the 3rd round? I was like WTF. I remember sitting on the toilet when my buddy told me who we picked. I flushed the toilet and was like well there goes that pick. Luckily I was wrong. But i'm sure i'm not alone in thinking that was a HORRIBLE pick at the time.

I know who i'd say was the worst draft pick ever. But not trying to hijack the thread plus the comments i'd receive wouldn't look at the whole picture so why bother.

I'd say this is a topic that's perfect for it.

Who do you think is the worst draft pick in the 49ers history?

Uh, how could a 3rd round pick be compared to 1st rounders?

Who do you think is the worst draft pick in the 49ers history?

Let's just say a guy who essentially cost us the #15 pick, the 37th pick and the 68th pick.

That's right one guy we drafted was basically a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. But no one wants to see it like that!

Who can remember Dante Hall DB from Washington? That was a horrible 1st round pick. They said that he had the size and speed to remind Niner fans of people like Lott and that was so far from the reality.

I am confused, please break it down for me because I am just not getting it.

Because i'm going to bed. I'll explain 1 more time and 1 time only. Denver wanted our #6 pick. They offered their #15 and #22 pick. We declined and countered with our #37 and #68 for the #22.

So instead of the #15, #22 (Manny Lawson), #37 and #68. We ended up with Vernon Davis and Manny Lawson.

Which means Davis essentially cost us the #15, #37 & #68. a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. All for a TE.

I know I will hear this and that for saying this. But it's the truth. Assuming the rumors that Denver did offer this is true. Which we can't deny or confirm. But the rumors were there.

You can spin it all you want. But a TE is not worth a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Retarded logic is retarded.

We were 4-12, and had the 6th pick in the 1st round. We spent a single 1st round pick on one of the best TE's in the league.

The response I expected! Afraid to look at the WHOLE PICTURE! Furthermore when you're 4-12 you have alot more holes than "one of the best TE's in the league". Those extra picks help more than Davis!

Anyway. This is why I didn't want to post this.

You could say that again. So basically your logic is based on some sort of hypothetical scenario. Well after this year, I guess conspiracies theories is all you have left to justify your hate. Say we got those picks. What guarantee is there that we'd draft probowl caliber players? How about focus on what DID happen? We got a probowler TE and a decent player in Manny. I think the title of worst draft pick ever should only be reserved for players who never contributed i.e Jim Druckenmiller and Rashaun Woods.
