Our Biggest Need(s)???

Member Milestone: This is post number 300 for akniner.
Hey guys, i haven't been up on my mock drafts for 2010 lately, with school and all, but i was wondering what you guys thought our biggest need (or 2 possibly since we have two picks in the 1st round). it looks like in a lot of our drafts we get OT trent williams and S earl thomas. every once in a while i see cj spiller in there and a lot of people seem to like that which is realllllly surprising to me because
1. we have frank gore and RB isn't a big position of need at all
2. we just drafted glen coffee who apparently the organization is still really excited about
3. yes we need a return man, but taking one in the first round and dropping glen coffee (who we took in the 3rd last year) to benchwarmer? i'm not so sure about that.

I agree we need a return man, but i'm sure we can get one in second or even third round (ahem, desean jackson anyone?). Also, i'm not even sure we need a safety over a CB. i think goldson played well last season and yes michael lewis is getting older but i think he'll be fine for atleast one more year. so do we need a safety? yes, but in the first round? i'm not super sure (unless of course this is a strong draft for safeties, which i don't actually know about). But clements is still a good CB, but i don't think as good as before. walt harris seems out the door. I have high hopes for tarrell brown, but that's not something to depend on.

So I would say our top 5 priorities in this draft are:
1. OT
2. CB
3. Return Specialist
4. S
5. OG

WHAT SAY YOU?!!!

I think there are a few threads with this same discussion .Anyho I think you do have some decent thoughts but can probably kill 2 birds with one stone with some of them ..ala a cb/kr type.

I say:

1a. Best OT/OG - BPA

1b. Game breaker or BPA pass rush

2. Best OT/OG

3. Game breaker RB/Wr/ KR

4. DB or KR

So in a nutshell major focus on the line ...the game break may be a luxury...the Colts made it without one... The Saints with one...you can argue both way but cant discount both teams have stud qb's ... Oh neither had a solid defense sooooooooo. With Warner gone...we are in prime positiion

Agree with you there.
with our second first rounder we need to go BPA on either passrusher like Graham or Gamebreaker like Spiller.

Most of our choices will be effected by what we do in free agency

I wouldn't even consider free agency as a major option this year because of the CBA situation. Trades will be more prevalent this offseason, more than free agent signings.

I agree with you in all but one point...I think that OG should get a higher priority. I think that we have to improve both OG and OT a lot.
Then we have to consider that clements could be gone by 2011 because of his salary. so perhaps we need another CB and if we should be in a position to get a good one this year, why not? plus, I dont trust neither brown nor bly yet...
and it would be better if we get another safety, dont care how...because roman will go and we could need another one for depth at least.

I like your 1st 2. Best OT available 1A and best game breaker or pass rusher 1B. We really need that. And if a game breaker is not available I'm ok with a pass rusher.
BPA....BPA....BPA....

If I had to rank it......
1. RT
2. OG
3. S
4. KR/PR (home run threat)
5. OLB
6. CB
i dont think CB is that much of a need spencer is a good number 2 and brown/bly are good 3 and 4 but if haden falls 2 us i wouldnt mind clemnts 1 and haden 2

anyway if i rank them

1. OT ( most important by far)
2 S ( A FS away from dominant D goldson more of SS)
3. pass rush (justin smith is really our main form of pressure we need a dominant one)
4. OG (we need to improbe our overall o line and need to replace bass)

I'm with you there. We need OL's and DB's. One of the DB's needs have return ability.
My ranking of needs:

Immediate Starters
ROT--This is the #1 one glaring hole on our team right now with so much depended on the position.
RS--We have needed an explosive return man for some time to win us the battle of field position.

Depth with opportunity to start
SS--M. Lewis will start, but on limited time. We need better depth than Roman and R. Smith. This class is too good and deep to neglect this need. I see one of our top four picks going to SS.
CB--Oddly enough, this could be the biggest after ROT especially with question marks on Clements (Will he take the pay cut or leave?), Harris (Will he come back for less or cut), and Bly (Will he come back or leave via FA). We need at least one CB to mold.
DE/OLB--We have Parys, Manny and Ahmad with Biggs being groomed. We need another one for depth and competition especially when he can play ST.

After that, it is BPA who can come in and contribute to ST immediately making us faster and younger with more skill.

That is why a Spiller (#1 RS in draft) and Williams (#1 ROT in draft) make a whole lotta sense at #13 and #16/17.

Even more so with a solid OG class in the second through the third as much as I want Iupati, too. Pouncey (G/OC), Ducasse, Asamoah, Johnson, Petrus, and Jerry (Who I like alot). Any one of those six OGs could give Baas or Rachal a run for their money, but would at the very minimum provide solid and talented depth.

Again, I see we can land a starting OG more easily than a starting ROT. Unless, Scotty pulls the trigger on Iupati for RT.

1st LT we all ready have pashos and boone to compete for RT if neither work out then we use our ne LT
1st b.OLB or DE our pass rush is not good enough Yet.
2ndLB Inside would be nice but a verital player to play inside - outside if needed
3rd it would be nice to trade back here and pick up an extra 4th or 5th rounder
Saftey
4th Gaurd
4th Safety
5th corner it woudl be nice to see a little scotty magic at this point.
6th LB agin remember ulrich retired.
7th TE Raw but with good athletics.
OFFENSIVE LINE
ZOMG!!!

Sorry, triple punctuation is a pet peeve of mine. I know we want to crank up the excitement, but do we really need to go to DEFCON 1???
