After another painful display last night against the Bears, I think it is obvious the Niners have to consider picking a QB in the upcoming draft. Alex Smith isn't the answer, Shaun Hill isn't it either. Nate Davis has the physical tools, but we don't know about the mental part of the game.
Since we have a more serious need on the offensive line and pass rush early, which of the following 2nd tier QB's would you like the Niners to take:
Dan LeFevour Central Michigan
Tony Pike Cincinnati
Jevan Snead Ole Miss
Case Keenum Houston
Zac Robinson OK State
I think that LeFevour would be a good developmental QB in the middle rounds. Your thoughts........

Which QB do the Niners pursue in the 2010 draft?

From that list, my vote would go to LeFevour or Pike. But I would take Snead if we could get him late enough, I think his problems are mostly mental and can be fixed with good coaching.

Both Tony Pike and Case Keenum are products of the offenses they run - Pike with the basic spread-to-pass and Keenum with Houston's full-on Air Raid. Especially in Houston's case, these offenses are what allowed quarterbacks like David Klingler and the string of Texas Tech quarterbacks to succeed (minus Taylor Potts).
The same could be said of guys like Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy, but those guys are talents that could succeed in any system and in Bradford's case it's obvious the Oklahoma offense doesn't run nearly as well without him.
Snead's quick decline into mediocrity makes him an interesting prospect - if he slipped into the later rounds he could be a project with more potential than Nate Davis.

It just seems to me that none of these guys have better ability than Nate Davis. I guess it may be worth a 5th or 6th rd pick on one but I wouldnt use any pick higher than that.

It's amazing that fans here don't want a QB. We were more aggressive at finding QB's when we had Young and Montana starting than we are now with Alex Smith.
But I'm sure we'll find that gem from the Lions waiver wire once again.

I liked what I saw in preseason from Davis, but is he really the answer?

There's no way to know that until he actually gets a chance to play in the regular season. The same could be said for any QB we draft in the future.

You don't stop looking at QBs just because you might have an answer. Hell even if you have a franchise QB you still want to look at mid round QB's ala NE, Philly.
I find it absolutely appalling that the franchise that once had the Joe Montana/ Steve Yound qb debate is now perfectly willing to settle for the Alex Smith/ Nate Davis (nothing against Nate though) QB debate.

Our organization is never going to stop looking at QBs, any organization that would is insane.
The days of Montana/Young are over, but no one is settling for anything. To think that we are is naive at best.

I'm talking about the fan base, and so far they're proving my point. The people here who would rather us draft Bear Pascoe in the 5th than take a QB.
So if we don't address the QB thru the draft that leaves us with Nate Davis, Hill/ Smith or both, and if one gets cut possibly this year's Dilfer/ Hill/ JT O'Sullivan. Whoever Detroit cuts from their waiver wire I guess.

This thread has 14 posts in it so far, half of them by you and I. Seems to me like not quite enough of a representative sample size. I, BTW, am in favor of drafting a QB, just not in the first two rounds unless it's Clausen or Locker.
