HBB Mock Three

49ers trade #61 & #93 for #49. Primary focus is getting more talent on OL since there are limited upside veterans (Brunskill, Brendel), young players whose upside is unclear (Banks, Skule, McKivitz, Moore) and probable departures next year (Mack, McGlinchey). JimmyG gets traded after the draft for combo of 2023 & 2024 picks.

49 Bernhard Raimann OT - Athletic OT who fits the Shanahan run game. McGlinchey is coming off serious injury, so bring in a talented player to compete for the starting RT spot.
105 Cole Strange IOL - Mostly played Guard but can be in the mix for Center spot.
134 Chigoziem Okonkwo TE - Good pass catcher who needs to work on his blocking. Competes for the backup spot.
172 Leon O'Neal S - Depth and ST
187 Alex Wright Edge - Work in progress as DE but has the physical tools
220 Tyquan Thornton WR - Vertical threat who competes for 4th or 5th WR
221 Bo Melton WR - ST gunner and return specialist
262 Kalon Barnes CB - Speedy work in progress CB

I like this a lot. Free agency shored up a lot of areas on the team, and affords the 49ers the chance to do something like this, and double up on offensive lineman with the first two picks.

Huf or TMoore should be ready to take over.

Getting Bernard Raimann is something Ive been pushing for awhile. Super underrated because he hasnt spent much time at OT after being moved from TE. Same thing that happened to Staley and we ended up getting a stud LT for a decade.

I also liked that you went heavy into OL. Im sick of having a bad line. Keep our future QB injury free should be Priority #1

Don't worry about SS. Dime a dozen on the FA market. Tartt, Tavon Wilson, Tony Jefferson, etc...many more available. SS is becoming like the DT market.

Overall don't hate the players...what did you use for a big board?

Is this another red shirt draft class? Like I said I like all the players (Melton/Strange/Oko) but I don't see a single dude starting for SF out of the bunch next yr? Maybe Strange at RG but everyone else is depth and developmental guys in 2022.

Wilson/Jefferson suck...those dudes were nothing more than bodies all said an done. We don't use safeties in the traditional sense of "strong safety" and we already have that box S in TH. They need someone that's interchangeable and can move all around like Tartt did for us and Ward can do.

This mock looks like a red shirt class to me. We have a good roster overall but I want a player or two from this class to actually play meaningful football and not just be replacements for 2023.

I used combo of Draft Network and PFF.

What do you think Tartt is? They'll probably bring him back too. Nothing wrong with drafting a S but just not high.

Yeah, Kyle confirmed they knew Tomlinson would get paid so they drafted Banks in advance of that. They'll probably stick with that moneyball mindset. Charvarius Ward for Emmanuel Moseley next year when he hits FA.

Think, a year out.

Meaning they need to look at OT (McGlinchey), FS (Ward) & C (Mack). Assuming they resign Bosa and Deebo.
