49erInTheMidwest's mock draft

Enjoy
1st round: Solomon Thomas, DL, Stanford. Elite player in this draft class, extremely athletic, strong, and versatile. He can fit in at just about any spot on the defensive line if needed. whether it's at 2,8, or anywhere in between.. he should be the pick.

2nd round: Derek Rivers, DE/OLB, Youngstown St. One of the most underrated players in the draft. His stock is rising fast. He was projected in the 4th/5th before the combine, now he could go as high as late 1st. This guys can flat out play. Great technique and hand placement. Fast off the edge, great strength, and a highly productive college career. Yes, Youngstown St. is no Alabama or Florida, but they have a couple of really nice defensive prospects in this draft. Some scouts say that from the looks he would've dominated at a power 5 school and been a top 15 pick. Speculation of course, but boy can he play.

3rd round: Nathan Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh. The 49ers might have their QBofTF in this pick. Smart player from a well rounded offense. Displays good reads, nice footwork, and very nice accuracy. Not the biggest arm, but he makes up for it with accuracy, anticipation, and decision making. Under Shanahan he could turn into a great QB in this league. Doesn't turn the ball over with dumb decisions and led his team to a win over the national champion Clemson Tigers

4th round: Rasul Douglas, CB, West Virginia. Tall, athletic corner with very nice ball skills. Overlooked trait in most corners that he is pretty good at, tackling in the run game. He might be the most overlooked corner in this whole draft. With his size, statline, and physical ability, Rasul Douglas look like a top 5 corner.

4th round: Marlon Mack, RB, USF. Extremely underrated IMO. Highly productive and great COP back for Hyde. Great runner with great burst speed in open field, nice hands, and nice field vision. He has to learn to not try and score a TD every time he carries the ball though, many times he cuts back too often.. He's no day one starter, but in this offense and with Hyde to carry most of the load.. Mack would be a great player for the 49ers.

5th round: Connor Harris, Lindenwood, LB. NCAA's all time leader in tackles. While he may be slightly undersized at 5'11, this guy is a high motor animal. He seems to be at the bottom of every pile, makes sense with 633 career tackles. He seems like a great fit for the SAM LB in base downs out of the stack. He should provide great run support, along with a much improved DL. Two time small school player of the year award winner. 323 solo tackles, 34 TFL, 8.5 sacks, 6 INTs, 14 pass break ups, 3 forced fumbles, and 5 fumble recoveries.. This man is all over the field. 48 career games, 48 career starts.. he's a damn good football player. He even punted and place kicked at times. If juice ever goes down, he could be a great FB sub, 50 carries, 328 yards, and 7 TDs at Lindenwood.

5th round: Corey Levin, G, Chattanooga. Light, strong, and fast feet. Potential to become a starting guard in the NFL. the 3 year starter from UT Chattanooga is a solid OL pickup that has experience as a tackle and guard. His athleticism would make him a nice fit in SF's new offense.

6th round: Cole Hikutini, TE, Louisville. Despite signing Vance McDonald to an extension and adding another Logan Paulsen in free agency, SF still needs a TE with more than iffy hands.. Cole Hikutini could be that guy. He is big and will be a mismatch for LBs. Was extremely productive at Louisville, 50 catches, 8 TDs, and 668 yards in 2016. He's a California guy and even spent a season trying to build his name at City College of San Francisco. Come on back to San Fran, Cole.. we've got a spot for ya

6th: Fish Smithson, S, Kansas. One of my favorite safeties in this class. He was a bright spot on a bad team. team leader in tackles, and was productive in pass defense: INTs, 7 pass break-ups. Also provided 2 FF, 1 FR, 3.5 TFL, and 1 sack. 4.5 forty range, 36.5" vertical. Considered undersized by many at 5'10 1/2" and 201 pounds, but he plays great on film.

7th: Krishawn Hogan, WR, Marian University. - WHO? The most overlooked prospect in the entire draft. He attended small Marian University in Indianapolis. This man posted one of the most freaky stat lines I've ever seen. He's a touchdown machine. Catching, rushing, you name it. 6'3", 222 pounds, 4.56 forty, 36.5" vertical (9th at combine), 6.74 in the 3 cone drill (6th at the combine), first year at Marian - 82 receptions for 1,136 yards and 11 touchdowns. He earned the first of three first-team Mideast League honors that year, repeating the feat in 2015 (101-1,824, 16 TD receiving; 39-130, 15 TD rushing). The American Football Coaches Association named him a first-team All-American in his senior year (80-1,435 yards, 15 TD receiving; 23-43, 10 TD rushing; pass TD); he was also his conference's Offensive Player of the Year.
I could be down with this
"Thanks for the road map" - webzone mock draft participants.

Great mock. Could be better with a different pick at 2, but not everyone gets everything exactly right.

A lot of names I like, some I didn't know (nice 7th round find).

Love the Mack pick. Edge at 34 is the way to go. I've cooled on Peterman, but the risk/reward is great at 4.

Nice job
thanks fellas. Haha, I know Lobo, you want Hooker , but I like our current safeties. If this were our draft, the latter half is gold and full of potential.
I know who Midwest is targeting in the third round of the webzine mock!

HA! He's been my want, unless mahomes somehow gets to us if I miss him, I miss him.. I've a got a late round QB or 2 with potential I really like late
We'll see though
Nice mock. Like Rivers & Douglas for the defense
Very nice mock for the defense with the pass rushers at the top and help for the Back 7 later. Guess the only need that wouldn't be filled with this draft is for a backup NT to Earl Mitchell. If that's the worst thing that happens, so be it. Love the additional help for the offense too in Mack and Hikutini. Don't get why most Zoners think we "set" at TE. Well done.
Really nice draft Mid. Love your research on the back end there finding those gems. I may steal your 6th and 7th rounders for my own mock. LOL j/k

Go for it, support for these guys needs to grow! Especially Krishawn Hogan

Okay biggie. I really like it, but I'd love to see some pass rush ability from our drafted SAM that actually can be a 3rd down rusher in 2018... I'm getting a lil picky I know lol. I'd like to flop the Mack and Harris, and use a 6th to package with our 4th round comp pick to try and get someone like Ryan Anderson? Or let me ask this, what SAM with pass rush ability do you rank ahead of Connor and where do you have them going?

well, Connor Harris isn't your rusher from the SAM spot, he's your stack: Solid run stopper, solid in the pass game -- honestly, I think he could start day one.. but he isn't an every down guy.. This is where you bring in Eli Harold, or one of the other capable guys on our squad. Maybe, a guy like Josh Carraway from TCU? Rivers would be very capable of it if you want to play Solomon at LEO and slide AA or someone else into the DL with Buck.. There's a lot of depth in the d line, especially when they only have to be 1 down specialists. I think a guy like Keionta Davis could come in and play SAM in the Nickel look. A guy who's intensity and potential I REALLY like for the spot?? - Vince Beigel from Wisconsin, especially if he can fill out his frame a little bit more, guy's an animal. To answer who's ahead of Connor and where, I think that a lot of guys can do it.. nice frame with nice pass rush skills.. so that leaves it open for 3-4 OLBs, 4-3 DEs, and 4-3 OLBs.. It's just about preference. I think with the Thomas and Rivers picks it adds enough versatility to the line that you can move a lot of guys on the DL around.. The reason I took Harris is because I don't really like the guys we have for a base 4-3 SAM on our team right now.. and like I said, I could see Harris becoming a Zach Thomas type LB in this league.

I like the possibility of trading, but only if we move from #2 and add more picks.. we need a lot of help.. this class has some diamonds in the rough, especially in the mid rounds
The first 3 picks are flawless... and would be the exact same for me, had I made a SF mock.

The Marlon Mack pick is another favorite, for me. The ideal day 2 running back for me.

Douglas is a solid and realistic option for rd 4. Had you chosen Brian Allen from Utah, I'd insist you tell me your parents' names.. for interest in whether we were separated twins.

Yeah, no way, on Harris being the SAM. He would have to be the Mike, and perhaps only the backup Mike. Love this type of LB from the old days, and as a college player, but he will struggle to make an impact at anything other than phone-booth tackling in the pros.

The rest is ok.. even a a player or two to better dig into. Most of the picks mentioned though, make this a great success, imo.
I like it, but I am convinced that some folks are overrating Thomas. I love him as an undersized inside defensive tackle, but this idea that he can play everywhere is bunk. He barely played on the edge at all, and when he did, he didn't look nearly as good. We need and edge pass rusher, not a logjam at DT. Still wouldn't b***h if it went that way though. Maybe we'll get lucky and the Browns will take Trubisky with the first pick.

I almost put Brian Allen, that's wild

Yeah, I really like Connor Harris, but after hearing more about our SAM's role I'm not sure he'/ the pick.. more pressing needs.

I'm gonna post a mock 2.0 w/o Thomas @ 2, and a different SAM, maybe a couple other things also eventually

I also saw Fish Smithson as high as the #100 player today!

Krishawn Hogan is going to be a starter at some point this season, just my opinion
