I believe it's how much Smith gets paid.

But in this case, I would still rather have Hill over Carr.

why??

Carr has actual talent. he was a former number 1 overall pick for a reason. Hill is a lifelong backup with a noodle arm, and hes getting old. Carr also has alot more starting experience.

like Smith, Carr never really had a real chance to succeed. he kind of bounced around the league. Smith is lucky his career didnt take the Carr route, and his comeback after injuries was successful.

i think Carr would be a very solid backup. it keeps Smith on his toes for his job, and provides a guy with starting experience, and natural talent, if Smith goes down. Hill skipping 30 yard passes off peoples feet isnt acceptable, especially in the spread offense the niners are installing.

Shaun Hill made 1.5 Million last year! Alex Smith made 3 million last year.

it looks like Carr will sign a 2 or 2.5 mill annually! their is no way they will pay him more than Alex Smith.

My source says it would be a 3 yr deal worth officially 6-7.5 Million! ill tell you when its 100%

And when you think about it, we really don't pay anything for our QB's right now in comparison to the rest of the league. lol

I wouldn't be upset or overjoyed if they did. That is chump change in today's NFL.

Same, we'd cut Hill anyway so it wouldn't be that much more money. As long as we keep Nate I'm happy.

Of all the players on all the teams in all the world, David Carr has to walk into yours, the 49ers facility on 4949 Centennial Boulevard in Santa Clara. David Carr! Really?

this is funny

But the fact the 49ers are bringing Carr in continues to confirm the team's aversion to Hills. They never seem to play wide receiver Jason Hill despite his obvious production and talent, and they always seem to want to replace Shaun Hill either as a starter or a backup. This despite Hill's impressive 2008 season and his knack for something pretty important for a quarterback - winning.

Man the zone is smoking some bomb bay when they get excited about signing David Carr. I'll say it again, I'll take Hill any day over Carr.

Yeah on further thought, I guess you're right.

Carr does make better sense in the long term if Alex doesn't pan out. That way, the rookie (whoever he may be) won't have to be thrust into the starting role right away.

How do you know Carr has been the only guy we have contacted
Yea, that's too much for Carr. He should take a pay cut since he gets to move close to home. Ungrateful punk.
