After one regular season of work and two bouts of free agency, the 49ers have risen from the bottom of the cellar to contender hopefuls in the NFC West. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have not only put this team back into contention, but due to their young stable of players, they should be contenders for a number of years. Nonetheless, despite their aggressive tactics there's still a lot of work to be done. Just two short months ago the 49ers inked quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a five-year extension. That was by far their biggest off-season move, but what area will they look to improve upon next? While it's important to give your quarterback valuable weapons to work with, it's even more key to find players who can protect him. Shoring up the offensive front is crucial moving...

Prior to Colin Kaepernick's hot start in the midst of their last Super Bowl run, the 49ers had spent more than a decade without a proven quarterback. You could make the argument that after nearly two decades of leadership from two of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, the 49ers were due for a lull. In life, there are a million what-ifs, and no one can read the future, especially in the sport of football. But what if the franchise was able to pass the torch to another Hall of Fame quarterback heading into the 2000s? It not only would've been unprecedented, it would've been near impossible to replicate. It's possible that the 49ers would have dominated their division for three full decades. Not to mention, the Bay Area would have stayed a popular landing spot for talented free agents....

It's time to give credit where credit is due. Too often in history we forget the important players who do the dirty work inside the trenches. How many times have you heard a fan compliment the offensive line after the offense scored a touchdown? Sure there's recognition when someone pulls off a magnificent block that absolutely levels a defender in pursuit. But overall, nobody credits the offensive line for the six points that just happened. Where would your Pro Bowl quarterback be without his blindside protector? More importantly, how would he get the ball down the field if it wasn't for the interior guys absolutely trashing the defensive line for ten seconds? What you don't know is that those ten seconds can feel like hours for the linemen. And the five guys in front of your...

The San Francisco 49ers have had some of the greatest players of all time suit up for the franchise. Members of the offense have put up record-breaking numbers, while the defense has stymied opposing offenses to the point of frustration and tears. But what if you could take the best players from different positions, no matter the era, to make one super team? Which side of the roster would come out on top, and more importantly how would it stack up against other teams and their all-time greats? Make no mistake, the job of the offense is to put points on the board, and several of the 49ers' offenses have done so throughout the years with ease. However, it can't be said enough or any more cleanly than this: defense wins championships. And this defense would do some serious damage on the...

Last year the 49ers defense ranked dead last. With a new coordinator and a new scheme, the team will attempt to get back to its winning ways. Here's why the addition of Reuben Foster pulls it all together. Admit it, you loved this pick. In fact, you loved this pick so much that if you were skeptical on Solomon Thomas with pick number three, the selection of Rueben Foster more than softened the blow. He's compensation in trade for three miserable seasons, and the redemption you've been seeking since the retirement of Patrick Willis. To put it plainly, just adding his name to the current roster puts every linebacker except NaVorro Bowman on notice. Foster was a steal at pick number 31. However, had he been selected in the top five, he still would've been the talk of the...

Starting over is never easy, but it beats the alternative of coming in second to last in the conference year after year. Here's why the 49ers are banging on the door of competition and ready to leave the basement in a hurry. Here we are again, knee-deep into the offseason and the excitement is already beginning to build. Every year it's the same old pattern. Fans harness their excitement for the season that could be, yet somehow this particular offseason feels entirely different. The franchise is finally building it's future on stable ground. For three years, the 49ers brass has been playing a very careless game of Jenga with the future of this team. It doesn't matter how many new stadiums you build, if your formula is off, the team will not produce...
