The season is over. We all know that. So a lot of our time nowadays is spent looking forward to next season: How will we fix our godawful offensive line? Who will be under center? How do we get a real pass rush? The questions seem endless. Specifically when trying to figure out how we will improve the offensive line a lot of fans point out that we are likely to have Anthony Davis back and I cringe because while I support his decision to step away from the game due to health concerns it really troubles me that he will just step away for a year or so and then come back seemingly as he pleases. In my eyes, it makes him an unreliable teammate. And I find it extremely ironic that I'm sort of pulling an Anthony Davis move and stepping away from writing/podcasting ......

Good news: the 49ers didn't lose last week. Excuse the bad joke but I'm still jet-lagging. Regardless of that I have re-joined AJ on our video podcasts this week as we look forward to this Sunday's game on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. In here we discuss key matchups against the Seahawks, we what expect out of Blaine Gabbert this Sunday, and our prediction for the game. I'm also defiantly disagreeing with AJ on about half the games this week. Here are our picks for all games in Week 11 of the NFL as we look at the...

Colin Kaepernick's rise to stardom was meteoric. He replaced a concussed Alex Smith and never looked back, leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012. For all intents and purposes, his future seemed assured. Fast forward to 2015. The 49ers are coming out of their bye with a 3-6 record, little real hope of a playoff berth...and Blaine Gabbert under center. With $14 million due to him next season and a contract that essentially allows the team to cut ties with him in the offseason...the question merits asking: will Colin Kaepernick be a 49er in 2016? Here's our...

On Sunday, the 49ers pulled off a surprising upset of the Atlanta Falcons. Almost immediately, talk of "turning the season around" began...with some going so far as to say that Blaine Gabbert could lead the 49ers to wildcard berth. Not so fast, kids. The 49ers played a complete game, and actually demonstrated that they can play football...but this team has a long way to go before they become a bona fide playoff contender. That stated, there were some positive takeaways from Week 9 worth talking about. This week, we'll break down what we saw against Atlanta...and which 49ers rose above the...

Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. And sometimes you start your Sunday football ritual with a fist of the best scotch you can find...because you know you're going to need it. This week, we take a deep dive into the dumpster fire that is the 49ers' 2015 season...and look ahead to this week's showdown with the 6-2 Atlanta Falcons: We also take a look at the balance of this week's slate of...

Last week, the 49ers got smoked like a cheap cigar...again...by the Seattle Seahawks. In their own house. On a Thursday night. On national TV. Ugh. This week, AJ is flying solo, answering your questions and providing what insight he can into the 49ers (many) problems: And as always, UFR gives you our official picks for the week (for entertainment purposes only, of...

Tonight in less than 12 hours a battle of 2-4 teams will take place at Levi's Stadium between your San Francisco 49ers and what is possible the team you love to hate the most, the Seattle Seahawks. The teams come into this game from different paths: the 49ers off a win after a four-game losing streak while the Seahawks are riding a two-game losing streak for the second time this season already. In this week's UFR video podcast AJ and I react to the 49ers win last week vs the Baltimore Ravens and look forward to tonight's game against the Seahawks. The podcast discusses: Colin Kaepernick. X-factor at WR for the 49ers. Bright spot defensively for the 49ers. The state of the Seahawks coming into this game. And our game...

Surely AJ and I weren't the only ones who had a lot of thoughts following a crushing defeat last week on Sunday Night Football against the Giants so it should be no surprise that most of the podcast this week covers topics related to that game. Topics this week are: What went wrong against the Giants? What went right? Jordan Devey vs Andrew Tiller. Bright spots for the 49ers five games into the season. Plus, are AJ & I again picking the 49ers to lose? The answer may or may not shock you. On another note, picking based on the...

Yes, BIZARRE. Count me as someone who wasn't expecting the San Francisco 49ers to be competitive tonight on Sunday Night Football against the New York Giants based on: Getting SHELLACKED in their first two road games this season in Pittsburgh and Arizona. Colin Kaepernick looking absolutely lost in the last two games at Arizona and vs Green Bay. Having very little faith that the defense would be able to repeat their performance against the Packers last weekend because of their lack of consistency (actually a team-wide problem). I could go on and on but instead let's do a recap of tonight. The 49ers won the coin toss and didn't defer. If you know when it was the last time they did that please let me know in the...

After a one-week hiatus due to technical malfunctions we are back this week with our third set of videos in which we change up our format a bit, going from discussing a couple of topics for a few minutes to discussing more topics but spending less time on each. This week we talk about: Colin Kaepernick. The offensive (get it?) line. Coaching. Trent Baalke. Jed York. And as always at the end of that video there is our prediction for this week's game in New York against the Giants on Sunday Night Football. On their...

The calendar turning to August means the start of training camp and 27 straight weeks of football starting this coming weekend. It also means a lot of our fantasy football drafts will be taking place in the near future. This will only be my seventh year playing fantasy football and as a result of picking up this beautiful hobby in the same forums of this website, I have come to notice a thing or two about 49ers fans and fantasy football teams: more often than not we draft 49ers players way too early. So as someone who has won more than a handful of fantasy leagues all over the place (Yahoo!, ESPN, FleaFlicker, NFL.com, CBS.com) over the last six years, I'm here to give you some advice about your fantasy draft and 49ers players, and just maybe give you the extra edge that will allow you to...

Well kids, as first quarters go this one could have been better ... and worse. We are now four games into the season and the San Francisco 49ers sit at 2-2. In this week's installment of UFR, AJ welcomes back Diego to reflect on the 49ers first quarter of the season and discuss whether Jim Harbaugh's squad is a contender or pretender in the NFL, which players have been the biggest surprises on the team, and which players have been the biggest disappointments. Let's get to it. San Francisco 49ers: Contender or Pretender? Diego: If we're going to discuss whether this is a playoff team then I will tell you the 49ers are a contender. If we're going to discuss whether this team will win Super Bowl XLIX? Pretender. A week ago I shared my thoughts on...

Almost two years ago to date I was one of maybe a hundred people gathered around a podium at a hotel in South San Francisco where Ronnie Lott was taking questions from us in an exclusive tailgate party hosted by Courtyard Marriot, the official hotel sponsor of the NFL. A few miles to the north the San Francisco 49ers were hosting the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. At the time the 49ers were six games into the season with a 4-2 record but they had just suffered an ugly defeat (26-3) at home against the New York Giants. The short week leading to the game against the Seahawks was not much different than this week: constant media second-guessing about play-calling, coaches, and whether the man behind center was ready to lead the team to a Lombardi Trophy. I was lucky enough to...

The San Francisco 49ers better be holding a royal flush in their hands because all actions by the team seem to indicate they're all in with Ray McDonald. It is impossible to discuss McDonald's situation without addressing the ongoing investigation in the Ray Rice domestic violence issue, even if Jed York recently stated in an interview with KNBR that "Ray McDonald is not Ray Rice." On that note let's define who Rice is: a 27-year old athlete currently out of job and indefinitely suspended by the NFL due to sucker punching his then fiancée (and now wife) Janay Rice in an elevator at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on 2/15/14. In the infamous words of Brad Pitt in Moneyball, "... there's 50 feet of crap," and then there's Rice. The NFL as well as the...

Celebrity chef Michael Mina, a 23-year 49ers season ticket holder, has his own playground at Levi's Stadium and if you are appreciative of mouth-watering food you should visit it. Bourbon Steak & Pub at Levi's Stadium, which will be open to the public as of tomorrow (August 11th), is not your typical stadium restaurant and I say that with conviction because Mina himself says his newest addition to his line of restaurants has his favorite kitchen of them all. A massive, 14,490 square foot location on the ground floor of the stadium (near Gate F), the restaurant is divided into three different sections: Bourbon Steak has a 90-seat section offering the fine-dining experience that you can find at Mina's Bourbon Steak restaurants in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Scottsdale,...

To me, NFL games are a collection of snapshots. Moments. Some good, some bad, but all worth watching. The 2013 San Francisco 49ers have created their share of snapshots this season...but the best set thus far came last week in Charlotte, North Carolina. From the get-go, Carolina came out swinging. And jawing. And pushing. And shoving. And at the end of the day, it didn't mean a damn thing. For all of their bluster, the Panthers were thoroughly outclassed...and one play in particular showcased it. Early in the 2nd quarter, the Panthers had driven the ball to the 49er 1 yard line. On 4th and goal from the 1, the Panthers elected to go for it. At the snap, Tony Jerrod-Eddie got immediate penetration, and as Cam Newton tried to sneak in over right guard...he ran right into Ahmad...

It is difficult to determine when it happened, exactly. The point at which it became obvious (to AJ anyway) the 49ers were going to win last Sunday, to be precise. Looking back, it likely happened about eight minutes into the 2nd quarter. Colin Kaepernick dropped back to pass, and set his sights on Vernon Davis. The play call was perfect...but Tramon Williams left his man (Anquan Boldin, who was running a lazy clearing route) to undercut Davis and pick off the ball. It wasn't the pick that created assurance that the 49ers were going to win...but rather what happened afterward. As Williams began to weave his way up the sideline, Kaepernick squared him up and dropped the hammer...then sprang to his feet, furious. He got in Williams' face...and stayed there, jawing. Suffice to...

While the NFL playoffs have the full attention of our nation, this is also the time of the year when the NFL draft starts to get a lot of (l)ink(s) . It seems like every day news break regarding underclassmen entering the draft early, which seniors will be attending All-Star games like the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game, and draftkniks and evaluators promptly provide their views on all draft prospects. While there is no doubt that we are all enjoying the season that the 49ers are having, this success comes with the small price of a lower pick in the draft order, where San Francisco will land no higher than the 25th pick as of today. This will provide a challenge to 49ers general manager Trent Baalke because San Francisco historically does not draft very well in the...
