Any task that requires repetition and precision in execution requires great discipline. Whether it's working on an assembly line or running routes over the middle, if your head's not focused and involved in the task at hand, mistakes will happen. These 49ers certainly do not lack in the ability to execute nor do they lack talent. They lack accountability. Harbaugh came in 4 years ago and brought with him the mantra of "The Team, The Team, The Team" and right now, it seems this squad is a bunch of individuals playing for themselves. I won't try to be dramatic about stating the obvious; the 49ers of the past couple of seasons have been a team that attracts a lot of flags. The past two weekends have been nothing short of astonishing at how predictably they would...

Obviously there was a lot written and said about whether or not Ray McDonald should play against the Cowboys in the days leading up to road-opener. The 49ers front office, the only voice that really mattered in that argument, ultimately decided that he should. As we all know, the decision didn't not work out for them, but especially in light of what's played out in Baltimore, the team has left itself open to a huge media firestorm if it should happen that their own Ray-situation turns out to be more explosive than they're hoping. The question now is, with the benefit of knowing what a disaster the Cowboys were, was it really worth the risk? Nobody has to convince me how precious every NFL contest is, double that when you play in the same division as the league...

So I had gotten pretty well into writing a "Don't Freak Out" piece after the Pre-Week 2 hammering at the shiny new stadium. It was becoming more like a diary-entry of me trying to rationalize what had just taken place on my TV screen, and it was sounding whiny so I slept on it for a night. Lo-and-behold my esteemed colleague, Jack Hammer, wrote a thoughtful and legitimate article of the same subject and got it up well before me. So I shelved that idea. But I have not really settled any of my anxiety over what's ahead for this team. These are pretty angst-y times for our fan base with the expectations being as high as humanly possible and 3 years of getting thisclose to re-gaining a feeling not had in a long, long time. Not Cleveland Browns-long, but maybe it's almost better...

One of the more noteworthy storylines leading up to this season for the 49ers is the fact that Jim Harbaugh is in the 4th year of his 5-year contract and it's been mutually agreed between him and the organization that they'll table negotiations on an extension until after the season. I think conventional wisdom would say that it's highly unlikely we see him flipping out on the sidelines for any other franchise in 2016, but for a coach to have as much success as has Harbaugh, to actually make it to the last year of his first contract with no extension has to be unique. However you look at the backstory, this is shaping up to be the most important season in his coaching career. Whether Harbaugh likes it or not, the chemistry and the philosophy of the team is changing. For the...
