Fans’ Take: Who should the 49ers target in free agency?

Jul 26, 2011 at 3:41 PM11

Which free agents should the 49ers target in the 2011 NFL free agency? We asked this question to San Francisco 49ers fans on Facebook and Twitter. Below are just a few of the responses we received.

B. Wiley: Any of the top QB's out there...Smith is not the answer.

D. Montano: get cromartie!! were obviously not getting asomugha so why not get the 2nd best corner in free agency

@mangosinslo: Marshall, Joseph, taylor

@RobbyBaughman They should go get Ray Edwards

F. Bucio: Nnamdi please!!

@NTQ03: They should sign former pro-bowler Leonard Davis to replace Rachal, Nmamdi or Cromartie, & a vet QB to replace Carr.

A. Williams-Fashaw: Hasselbeck, Nmandhi A., Holmes, or Cromartie

S. Braccia: Hasselback and Johnathan Joseph

D. Wright: No one believes Smith is the answer... he is the stopgap or bridge to Colin Kaepernick ... Harbaugh will make them both better... we'll see just how much.

H. Esquivel: Nnamdi! And a new RG! Bring Lawson, Franklin, Laboy, Mcdonald, Goldson, Bass, Spikes back! Cut Haralson! Make Rachal a back up! Cut Horrid and get a new FB! Restructure Clements!

J. Servente: Cromartie, Nmandi, or Asante. Worst defensive backfield in the game. Need to fix this now.

M. Tavares: Definitely a CB, a QB, and a better #2 receiver

A. Kneisel: Nnamdi, Cromartie , restructure Clements or cut him. Sign baas and McDonald. Move a restructured Clements to safety with mays nnamdi and Cromartie and watch this defense dominate...

J. Clougherty: Johnathan Joseph thats it -- He won't command a big salary no matter much Nnamdi gets so we would still avoid being "major players" in free agency by signing him.

A. Carrillo: Josh Johnson,Ricahard Marshall,Thomas Howard and Eric Weddle

T. Velasquez: Nnamdi.

@kilzz80: Sydney Rice, he's a very good WR and provides a deep threat, also I would like to a WO with RICE on there jersey again in SF.

F. Hernandez: Johnathan Joseph & Cromartie...we need better DB's

C. Munkres: Orton and Nmandhi

what we needed to do was sign a guard like harvery dahl(i know its too late !) or a proven tacles so when can have another starting linemen with experiance so when one of our starter goes down another proven player can step up. we also needed to sign the big contract with desahun goldson so we could have a skilled vertrean safety with a bright future. best scenairo would have been to sign johnathen joseph to a nice big contract in the beginign and solidfied the cb postion.or we should have restrurcered nates contract traded him and a draftpick for a different corner. for our wr postion malcom folyd for cheap or brylan edwards to break the bank book, we need size at the wr postion zeigler is not cutting it. an agile fb would be neccessary if we are running a truewest coast, since we only have moran norris who is a great blocker . QB postion needs something besides alex and the rookie maybe im crazy but forsome reason a trade for charlie whinehurts sounds appealing to contend with alex smith for the starting roll . mat roth cliff avril and kedric golston all look like a great additon to our defense of line with mc donald sopaga and justin smith. balke has my dream job.. contact me!

I wish they would do anything , again they decide not to bring in a QB to challenge Alex , we need a WR , a RB , QB , CB , DE and a center we're still a mess and don't seem to be bringing in any players to improve.

Cromartie has very poor habits when it comes to putting in the hours in the film room which reflects a poor attitude. In the NFL, natural talent only goes so far. Personally, I'd prefer Jonathon Joseph AND Richard Marshall over acquiring Nmandi

Dont think Nnamdi will be a Niner would love it tho so..I think we should get Reggie Bush when he gets cut, J. Joseph, Ray Edwards, Sidney Rice, and I wouldnt mind seeing T.O. back. And I think Alex will be fine this yr Im not gonna down him like everyone else does cause ur supposed to support whoever is on ur team n be posiive cause negativity breeds more losing. And me being a fan for years now im tired of losing and a culture change is needed starting with less hatred for our starting QB if he ends up being that.

Alex Smith is the answer! If the question is what's the best way to get the number one draft pick for next year. Still think we should go for Nnamdi, and if we can restructure Clements and have them as our corners.

I would like a DT (Pat Williams) a big WR, or a corner. Joseph is on a lot of people's radar. James Jone is a possibility. Plaxico Maxico Buress will be cheap!

Resigning McDonald, Bass, Lawson, Franklin, and Gholdson should be #1 priority. If not, I would like a DT (Pat Williams) a big WR, or a corner. Joseph is on a lot of people's radar. James Jone is a possibility. Plaxico Maxico Buress will be cheap! Oh ya, get rid of David Carr ASAP. He can't throw a 12 yard out.

I Think The 49ers Should Get Rid Of Nate Clements, Which Would Free Up Cap Space$$$. He's Not Worth Almost 9 Million Dollars Could Be More, Cut Him Coach Jim Please!!! Go After (DB's) Joseph, Cromartie...(WR's) Roy Williams, Randy Moss... I Think That The 49er's Will Get The Most For The Money That They Will Spend, It Would Have Been Nice To Sign Nnamdi Asomugha, But B/C Of The Knew CBA The Cap $$$ Is Lower Know So We Must Spend Smart And Wise!!!
